re: Why won't auto manufacturers make it easy to change the oil on a vehicle?

Most automobiles from the 70's and 80's were gigantic pieces of shite. Just a bunch of shite pieced together by dudes that didn't give a fvck.
I've spent many an hour under the hood of those dung heaps.
These days... most cars don't need a tune up til they're over 100k miles. It's pretty incredible.

My truck has a flap cut into the wheel well to allow super easy access to the oil filter, without that it would be just about un-accessable. Came from the factory that way

What vehicles are we talking about? I don't have anything newer than a '09 but It's plenty easy to change the oil on.

Had a buddy whose dad was an executive for a manufacturer. Said he never changed his oil because it was just a BS story that it has to be done. Just need to add fresh oil now and then.
Not suggesting anyone else do it, but I hadn't changed the oil in my Ford for the last 150,000 miles before I sold it and had no problems. Either I'm really lucky or the need to actually change the oil is BS. Haven't changed the oil in wife's car in about 75,000 or so but she doesn't put as many miles on it.

All they would have to do is make the oil drain spout and filter easily accessible where just about anyone could do it.
What kind of vehicle are you referring to? My Jeep is rally fricking easy, my F150 is really fricking easy, My Chevy's have all been really fricking easy, my Range Rover was really fricking easy. It was literally a 9/16 or 5/8 wrench and 10 minutes to change them all.
My dad's Ecoboost F150 is a little tougher because you have to pull a small cover off to get to it but it is still easy from there.
If you say a Ferrari or something, then yeah, it is tough with a mid-mount engine given you have to pull the engine out in my understanding of it. That is one of the big reasons why people buying vintage 80s, Magnum PI, Ferraris find themselves selling them quickly. It costs crazy money to do simple maintenance.

Now it's the opposite, made with plenty of cheap material and not made to last.
what time frame are you using as an example of cars that lasted longer?

Ever been to Cuba?
It's awesome if you're a fan of the old ones.

got some pretty nice burns on my arms changing the oil in those ill-handling, unreliable turds.
Why are you changing the oil when the engine is hot?

Does your mother count? If so, sometimes.
Jk but no, I don't.
In all seriousness, I'd much rather have a new Ferrari 458 than a bel air

all of those cars have had major work done for decades, though. i don't see how that pic shows anything about longevity

They were made in the 40s and 50s and still everyday roadworthy because the owners can take care of them

i seriously doubt much of anything beneath the surface of those cars was made in the 40s/50s

I would say this is pretty much bullshite in general and you got really lucky if that is the case. Engine oil ends up with a lot of trash in it in general, hence the reason for the filter. To change the filter, you would lose enough oil to go ahead and drain it all. If you haven't changed the filter, then you are really lucky you haven't blown up an engine.
Engine oil starts out reasonably opaque and ends up burnt and black. Burnt and black oil isn't good for an engine. 3000 miles is a joke and over maintenance, but not bad by any means. You can realistically get 5k to 10k miles between oil changes.

I have a 46 year old car that I have owned for 30 years. I can probably take the engine out and put it back in and have it running again in an hour

I have a car that's almost 50 years old. If it were driven every day, it would be in the shop every month or so.
