So isn't the implication here that a woman is never in control of herself, and is always dependent on the actions of her partner? That invites the idea that women who cheat are never culpable, as it relies on this idiotic idea that a man should be a man, whatever that means. This notion also invites other implications about responsibility...

Again, you realize this line of thinking (that you quoted) removes culpability for the woman who cheats? It is set as a conditional, as in, if you are a good man who steps up (whatever the hell that means), then a woman won't cheat. The logic here is insane. And what a good man means is so amorphous that it can justify any response from the woman.

It's just a logical way of justifying cheating. "He was such a strong man, then he was weak because of ______ -- that was not the man I married/dated, so I cheated on him."
