Maybe the sign should also say "No wading through this with your 3 year old because there's a steep drop and you can't see the bottom....and it's a body of water in fricking Florida".

You'd have a point if this happened in a swimming pool.

To someone from Nebraska, it likely means no swimming. Not no wading in 6 inches of water because an alligator might get you.
I am not taking sides. I think both parties have some fault. Just trying to see things from their point of view.
My thought here is that this is just an unfortunate incident. It is a case of nature being cruel, and is really no different than a kid getting bit by a shark while playing in the surf at the beach.
It's a scary and shocking thing to think about, but the truth is that these types of things are incredibly rare.
The beach has had thousands of families doing the exact same thing each year, and this is the first such instance. For liability reasons, perhaps the resort will need to have a cast member stationed at the beach in the evening to keep people away from the water. Regardless, people need to calm their minds and think rationally about what happened, and try not to live in fear about every possible danger lurking around the corner. You should always be vigilant, but you should still be able to enjoy natural places without being paralyzed by the fear of a beast lurking in the shadows.

I don't know why every news outlet would not say the signs read "do not enter" if that were the case
You don't know why the media would report incorrect information?

I bet no one would leave the hotel if some of those signs had been posted. This is a freak accident and Disney should pay but until something like this happens then its all hindsight. Just like when people die at a railroad crossing with no gate. Then magically a gate appears after. It toke a tragic event to point this out. Prayers to the family though they have to live with this for the rest of their lives and no money amount will change that.

I know that isn't the exact location where the incident occurred...but it IS a beach on the ground of the Grand Floridian Resort and Disney uses the same signage throughout each resort hotel. I was just posting that picture to get an idea of what the signs at the Grand Floridian look like. This is reportedly the location of the incident from what I understand:

Just telling folks not to enter isn't enough. You have to force them to not enter.
Yep. Too many people want to blame others when I think both parties share the negligence in this case.
We have gotten to the point though that it doesn't matter what precautions you take you will still get sued and likely lose.

There are Gators there because, besides it being their territory, that lake is loaded with fish. So if i'm a Gator, i'm shopping there. You cant stop them.
I guess maybe if Disney were to kill ever living thing in that lake , Gators probably would stop shopping there.

Your not from around here are you?
Heck Biloxi Ms has thousands of Gators inside its city limits. That is a city of around 50K people.

I don't know how anyone could look at that and think it'd be a good idea to let your kid splash around in there at night.

the whole area has gators.
why is Disney offering a family resort in the middle of a swamp?
they found 5 gators in the immediate vicinity when they looked for the boy.

Gators breed like rabbits in Florida. Can't contain them all
My parents live on a lake. Growing up we used to see many Gators basking on our back lawn. We had a screened in patio so we could observe them without them rushing us. They're pretty docile.
We have this trail down there called "shark valley" where you ride a bike around this 15 mile trail and you will be within feet of Gators that don't do shite.
The only time I've ever seen one get feisty is when we were in the water fishing. For some reason they become straight up dicks when you're in the water.
Haven't seen any back there in years though, damn suburbia killed them all.

At 9:15 at night when you can barely see into the water? In a lake in Florida with "no swimming, steep drop off, deep water" signs all over the place?
If the warning signs didn't stop you, common sense should.

I don't think that is the same area as I don't see the playground or any chairs/whatnot on that beach
