Seems that's the easiest robbery for value obtained. Why commit armed robbery in a well lit with cameras circle K for a few hundred, when you can walk up to pretty much any hoity toity mom and get 5-20k. Just dress in a business causal outfit, say "excuse me ma'am, do you know where the nearest whole foods is" and then brandish and profit.

Why do criminals leave easy ring grabs alone? Morals?

Because cash isn't traceable and jewelry you have to pawn where they require an ID and paperwork because that is the law.

Not hard to figure out

I've always wondered why false claims on ring insurance isn't more prevalent. It seems like it would be close to impossible to get busted.

Diamonds have (at least now they do) an ID laser etched on them so small you can't see it. I have the paperwork on my wife's ring including that ID, so it would be a lot harder for a thief to sell and profit from without getting busted than just cash.

try to pawn jewelry. The markup is insane and the resale value is next to nothing.

Yep. Diamonds are a total ripoff. They aren't worth nearly what you pay for it.

You aren't melting a diamond (where they put the ID's)

I assume he means the gold. Which there is very little of in a ring.

this ^^^^^^

and then you go try to pawn that $2k ring and they wont give you more then $200 for it, 10% is the norm, and you went from petty theft to a felony value only to make $200 and have witnesses to trace it right back to you

This.

A family member lost their wedding ring with a 25k replacement policy (said they paid like 18k for the ring initially or something like that).

She lost the ring, called up the insurer and dropped 25k on a new ring in less than a week. No questions asked pretty much.
