How so?
USSSA now going to pay at the plate for many events this year. Still charge entry and gate.
2D charged for gate only.
Plus like you said they have MiLB guided pitching rules.
ETA, go look at the number of events 2D is hosting and the locations this fall. Across the state, Miss, and Ala

Even 20-25 years ago, before travel ball and U trip were really a thing, LL wasn't big here in LA.
All the local leagues were generally affiliated with Dizzy Dean or Dixie Youth up to age 12, and then Babe Ruth starting at age 13.
LL, Dizzy Dean, Dixie Youth, Babe Ruth, etc - all of those are league-based programs. You play league ball (what is often called "rec"), then at the end of league season, you form an all-star team. You practice a bit, play in a couple of warm-up tournaments, then play in district tournament. You win that, you go on to state, then regional, then WS.
The teams aren't together for very long (although as the kids age, the teams tend to stick together throughout the years). And it's logical - you have a league then you have an all-star team, then you go play another sport.
Travel ball is just a completely different animal.
Travel ball in LA has killed rec ball which in turn has killed a lot of the league based programs and all-star teams. The EBLL team seems to have some travel ball kids who also played in that league, which meant their travel ball coaches were ok with the kids playing "rec" in addition to travel ball. Most travel ball coaches aren't that generous.

Br hasn’t had true LL for loooong before travel ball cane around until the recent rule changes it was incredibly difficult for a town like br to do LL

LL fees are extremely high, so I've heard
Main reason it hasn't caught on here is Travel Ball teams don't want AAA/Major kids playing 50% of games in a REC League.
Also, it's not full baseball

You mean it’s not “open” baseball.
LL is closed baseball.

I would think this is a reference to not allowing base runners to take a lead while the pitcher still has the ball.
Also LL has a much smaller field at 12u

I wish we did have a Little League district. I even have room on our Yukon’s back window for my boy’s name and jersey number, right between the Marucci and 30A stickers.

Sulphur has been Dixie Youth for as long as I can remember and they switched to Little League last year I think.
There is a movement for entire Travel Ball teams to join the local rec league and play together for the season against the rec teams to become that league's all star team with a chance to make it Williamsport.
We saw it a couple of years ago in a Pony softball tournament. The parents of the team told us about it. The girls were designated all stars before the season even started. They played in the league against the regular drafted teams but they had been together since the previous fall. The league did form a "B Team" from the rest of the league's players that did not play year round travel ball but they obviously were not as good.

My buddy’s kid had tryouts this past weekend. He’s 7 or 8 years old. All I could do was laugh

Won’t happen. These kids don’t have the arms to play REC ball during the week and then play travel on the weekends. Thats the reason most kids stop playing REC once they turn 9 years old.

Because Dixie baseball is better.

I think eventually tournament ball will develop into a league style system (esp at Majors) where playing the game is preferred to trying to win rings or 6ft tall trophies.
I can't disagree more. Tournament (travel) ball is all about money. Everyone has to have a tournament. League ball, if successful only makes money for the park or venue. It also would put even more physical stress on the players, especially pitchers during the week which will affect the weekend performance.
That said, I wish I COULD agree with you. I believe that league type play is much more beneficial than the constant weekend after weekend tournaments. When Cypress Mounds first opened up, they had league play during the week that consisted of most of the area travel teams. That died out though and it was replaced briefly with a very "rec-ball like" league. That died also.

When all the more talented kids leave there are fewer in the rec league, but make no mistake about it there are kids that are developing at different speeds or coming to the game later that go into rec leagues and are real good.
My son is a travel player on a Majors team, but there are talented kids all over. This misnomer that all these kids suck is just wrong, they just are not as concentrated as before.
We have little league here in Alex, as well as Dixie. Dixie is much better organization here, I have had friends try to engage the LL folks with hopes to get a team to the World Series possibly and they get extremely frustrated. You can just sign up a team, so that is not an issue, the issue seems to be the management of the league.
