the only state I can think of that may have such a sharp cultural divide within the state is North v. South Florida.
NYC vs Upstate vs Long Island
Eastern WA vs Western WA
LA vs SF vs rest of CA
Northern VA vs Southern VA
It exists all over

That's because there isn't very much to be proud of. All we can do is hate our fellow Louisianans to make ourselves feel better.
When LSU won the 2019 Championship I was saying how great it was for the state. How there’s a lot of people who feel like they don’t have a lot to hang their hat on but LSU football is something that they could.

Yeah it’s not uncommon at all
Ohio Michigan and Illinois all have something similar

You should see upstate vs. downstate New York. The fact that nobody even knows that upstate New York exists, and thinks that New York = New York City, causes a lot of resentment and hate.
At least the general American public is aware of North and South Florida, North and South Louisiana, Northern and Southern California, Dallas and Houston etc.

But when you are 48th, 49th, 50th in every state ranking that people pay attention to... it's hard not to have defeatist syndrome.
So it's a race to the bottom?
And as mentioned earlier in the thread, frick Tuscaloosa and everything associated with that God forsaken place. Montgomery can frick off too.

It’s catholics versus evangelicals.
I’d be willing to bet a lot stems from this initial religious divide.

No different than the whole state of TN outside Shelby county hating Memphis or Illinois hating Chicago. All of Washington State east of the mountains hates Seattle.

hunting, sports. same stuff that unites any other state.
This is what North Louisiana excels in. So is it really any different than Mississippi or Arkansas or East Texas?
I think that’s the divide.

Because north Louisiana is literally Texas.

Because, roads are raciss, and we have the worst roads in the country.

This.... everyone up here can pretty much acknowledge they are not "culturally" Louisiana. and that's fine.
Oldest city in LA in NorthLA, culturally not LA does not compute.

North La would be better off as Texas. But tbh, being born in S LA to all S LA family, then being raised in CenLA from 9 months old until adult and having friends in and lived in every corner of LA. The only real difference is Nola vs. the rest of the state. It's funny to go back and forth but in my experience people from all over LA have always been prideful to be from Louisiana, and prideful of their area too. It's New Orleans that says it isn't really "part of Louisiana" it's its own thing, or whatever they say.

umm.. people really don't hate the other. this seems like a reach.
