re: Why is it so important to rich people that they signal their wealth to other people?

I don't think they all do, but for those who do it seems very important. The reasons are likely multiple and specific and not a one fits all reason.

Some rich people like to hold up their “stuff” as a sort of trophy to show that they’ve accomplished something… some rich people don’t like to do that.
The reason some like it is because they might lack in something that makes them feel accomplished or satisfied and it’s only through showing off that they get their thrill.
Why? That’s a rabbit hole

I love the theory that most human innovation and great creative works were created by men in their twenties driven by the desire to get laid. Not much different than a peacock and its feathers.

You have some trusting neighbors if most around you share all their financial data with you.

I’m not talking about helping your family.
I’m talking about helping people you don’t know that you can see are on hard times but trying to be productive.

So shortsighted it’s not even funny.
If you are over 40 you know all the pitfalls and other things that can hurt people’s lives. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance now and again.

Or maybe we drove old, used cars through HS and college and now that we csn afford it ( b/c we worked our arse off) we like to drive fast, cool cars?
That's generally how it's done-hard work.

im over 40 and it aint short sighted, you are acting like a women being all emotional and feeling sorry for people making bad decisions
but whatever, you do what you want with your money but dont get upset and call people fake or other things when people decide to spend their own money on themselves and their own family.
and i do help people every day, in fact i go to work 2 days a week just to pay the taxes that go to help those people.
like i said, do what you want with your own money, but do call others fake, or trying to show off etc because they choose to spend their money different than you.

dont forget the average OTer defies the BMI scale because they lifted weights in HS 20 years ago and that anyone that is 35+ with kids and in good shape is a narcissist who uses steroids.
also.....they will tell you kids dont play outside or sports enough...but if your kid plays too much, when it comes to sports, then its just the parents living through them.
same OT used to say taking out a lone on a vehicle, even at 1% or less interest, was nuts. and if you did 7 years 1% interest than you were just a sucker for not paying cash....granted, they were saying this at the peak of inflation, when inflation was 5%

You are also forgetting the trashy small penis syndrome.
Anyone with a truck larger than 1/2 ton or fast car has to have a small penis.
Anyone with a tat is trashy.
Anyone with a moyorcycle has a small penis and is also trashy.
Lots of unhappy folks here.
