After the tornado, I got over $100k in insurance checks, typically @$35k per check, from Allstate.
The checks were written on a BoA account and BoA was the servicer for my mortgage (gotta funnel it through the mortgage company, since they have the mortgage lien on the house). BoA held each of the checks for four days to "make sure there was money in the Allstate account."
Let that marinate for a moment. They held a check written on one of their own accounts for four days to make sure it was good... BoA sucks. The VA bought our mortgage after we refinanced with Synovus (no idea why, I'm not a vet), then hired BoA to do the servicing. I'd never willingly do business with BoA.

The only thing I can confirm is the retard part. That's obvious.

Go to a Western Union or other shady check cashing places. Depending on what you need the money for and how quickly.

If you had enough in your accounts they would cash it, no questions asked.

They will start cashing your checks when you stop using '2' for 'to'.

I guess they put a hold on it to make sure it would clear.
I know back in the day any cash transaction over $10K, we would have to fill out a CSR (some government reporting form) on the person and you couldn't tell them that is what you were doing.
