I have the answer! Our bodies do not know our weight, only to maintain the weight we are. It is not normal to be in a calorie deficit, or hungry. It is called homeostasis, and it is our bodies job to maintain it. It is no surprise that Shaquille O’Neal has to eat 4000 cal a day to maintain what he has. It is the same with someone who is fat.
The problem is with today’s most readily available foods. They are extremely calorie dense, and when we eat them we gain weight, and our bodies tell us to maintain what we have. It’s a vicious cycle.
We are not fat because we over eat, we over eat because we are fat.

That's precisely why people are fat. You can eat whatever the hell you want and be in good shape as long as the calories add up. That may not be ideal for health, but you can eat McDonald's or Twinkies for every meal (people have done it) and get ripped.

It's hard out here. I had a can of straight up black beans for lunch today and reading the can it was 70g of carbs, plus the hot sauce I sprayed on them. I guess you have to subtract the fiber or whatever, but I'll eat the shite out of some beans.
I'm not trying to lose weight, though, so the story has no point.

It is not hard at all and I am 45. I started out weighing 289 and am now down to 273. My goal is to get down to 250 before I head home on R&R at the end of August. Would like to eventually get down to about 235. I am 6'4".
I have lost right at 16 lbs in the last 10 weeks and this is with putting on a lot of lean muscle which is more dense than fat (takes less muscle than fat to equal a pound).
One of the biggest things especially as you get older is to eat 5-6 very small meals a day, not 2 or 3 big ones. It will speed up your metabolism. I tweaked a nerve in my neck this week and missed 3 days at the gym (weighed 276 day of injury) and ate like shite those 3 days and still lost weight (weighed 273 the day I went back to the gym).
0700: Egg whites scrambled w/ cheese, 3 turkey sausage links, 1 biscuit (bad carbs), 1 banana, oatmeal (good carbs), v8
1030: Clif bar
1200-1330: Gym
Right after gym: Protein shake, protein bar, and 1 Tb peanut butter
1600: 2-4 oz of Tuna
1930: 2-4 oz beef jerky and 1 Tb of Peanut butter
Right before bed: Casein Protein shake (slow digesting protein)
Workout schedule:
M and Th: Chest and Tri's, 10-15 min Cardio
Tu and Fr: Back and Bi's, 10-15 min Cardio
Wed and Sat: Shoulders and legs, 10-15 min Cardio
Sun: Off day from gym
Sunday is also cheat day on food.
To the guy waaaay back in the thread that said part of his problem is working 65 hours a week in a stressful job, I work 10-16 hour days 7 days a week in Afghanistan. Quit being a fricking pussy and have some god damn willpower!!!

How many times a week do you eat out? What is a typical grocery list for you? No offense but $30 per week is hard to believe.

LOL this is patently false. Do some research into intermittent fasting.
Also the 6 meals you posted are extremely inflammatory and full of sugar!

people are lazy. I go through cycles where i get lazy AF for a year and start getting chubby. i then diet and stop drinking for a year or two and get skinny again. I'm talking like a 15 or 20 lb swing, nothing major. All it takes is discipline and knowledge. Folks nowadays think if all they eat is stuff that says low fat on it they should be losing weight.

NO they are not.
Egg whites: Protein
Turkey links: Protein
Oatmeal: 6oz of plain oatmeal is only .41g of sugar. Rest of the carbs are good carbs.
Biscuit: .3g sugar
V8: 6g sugar
Clif bar: 21g sugar. Rest of the carbs are good carbs. Only eat these for fuel for the gym. Plus the body needs carbs for recovery as well.
Protein shake: 2g sugar.
Protein bar: 1g sugar
Peanut butter: 1.5g sugar
Tuna: 0g sugar
Beef jerky: 10g sugar
peanut butter: 1.5g sugar
Casein protein: 2g sugar
Total Sugar: 45.71g, less than what there is in a 12oz can of Mt. Dew.
Also, I am not just trying to lose weight. I am trying to pack on muscle at the same time and it is working perfectly. Adding more muscle mass to your body is the fastest way to speed up your metabolism.

Lost 32 pounds in 2 months by replacing sugar with Stevia, cutting out bread, potatoes and rice and walking 2 miles every other day.
Posted on 7/22/18 at 6:40 am to Perfect Circle
I went from 185 to 168 in a month and a half buy cutting sugar(I didn't eat much sugar anyways), bread, flour/corn tortilla, rice, pasta, but eating more lean protein and good fats.
Hit the gym for 45 min-1 hour 3 days a week lift weights.
After yo yo ing weight wise for years thinking I was eating healthy and using age as my excuse why I can't lose weight I am now 48 and in the best physical shape of my life.
It can be done just takes effort, want, education, and drive and this is why most people fail.
I am now at my target weight and can cheat a few times a week without gaining weight. I even still drink beer 1-2 nights on the weekend and have stayed the same weight now for over a month.
So don't give up and just make sure you educate yourself on what food is really making you fat. I can tell you Low/no fat food isn't the answer like you were made to believe.

Because people are lazy
That’s it. Nothing else. Period.
It's not an excuse per se, but it's not the same for everyone. Food is my weakness. Luckily I'm not fat, just not as low in BF% that I'd like to be. I wouldn't say im lazy at all. I recently put in the work over the last year to do a half and full ironman. But in the time I started the focus for the full distance, I never lost any weight. Not a big deal since I'm only 5'11" 175#. But I had some skinny man fat that could have been lost and would have rathered run a marathon at 165#.
But as focused and determined as I was to work out 14+ hours a week, waking up at 4 am during the week, and taking 6 hour bike rides at daybreak on the weekend (see.....not lazy), I just couldn't break my cycle of bad eating.
Trying to do it now without the intense training to create cravings, but it's truly harder for me than what others might consider very hard work and dedication doing physical activity.

Yea, now hungover
OP asked why it is so hard for people to lose weight, the answer is because a calorie deficit is not a natural state, and our bodies give us tons of signals and urges to eat when in that state. You can watch Gary Taubes talk bout it here for an hour.
That is why it’s hard for people lose weight, but that’s not the problem, that is just the way our bodies work. The problem is calorie dense foods.
The phrase we are not fat because we over eat, we over eat because were fat is just a phrase to make people think.

There are some studies that show people as a whole follow the US dietary guidelines, which are truly terrible.
