WAFB: New plan for revitalizing downtown Baton Rouge is in the works
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - It’s been almost 15 years since the last Plan of Baton Rouge was created, which is basically a blueprint for what the future of what downtown should look like and how to make that come to life.
Although there has been a lot of new developments downtown over the last few years, there has not been a clear, cohesive plan on how these projects will work together to bring more investments to the area. That’s the goal of creating a new master plan called Plan Baton Rouge III.
...
Dexter said Baton Rouge has gone over a decade without a concrete plan. The first Plan Baton Rouge was launched in 1998, and the second one was launched in 2009.
I mark time by the dredging of the LSU lakes and the Plan Baton Rouge revitalize Downtown projects. They're like Sisyphus.

Yes cops are always posted on 3rd street hanging out especially by their station on the corner. On Friday and Saturday night they walk up and down 3rd checking on things and stay until after 2 AM closing time. They are always nice and friendly, I normally stop at the corner store and get them drinks/snacks.
Very good

Yes, when white dollars leave that area goes to shite

Because it’s dangerous and infested with homelessness.

Yes, I do. I live literally down the same street that takes you downtown in Baton Rouge.

With more people living downtown,
There are at least half a dozen apartment and condominium towers down there. And some are quite new like Heron and Rivermark. There's also single family homes. How may more people need to live down there before we reach critical mass?

Yeah I feel if downtown was next to lsu it would be much more vibrant.

Im waiting to see the results. The firm in charge has actually had decent success.
The bad thing is we could get together in a room and fix the issues within a hour of drawing up a plan and spending a bit of cash. It’s not difficult issues holding downtown back by any means imo.
I’m there on the front lines of it, lots to do but very achievable

I lived and worked in downtown Baton Rouge for years and these two things have always been highly exaggerated by this board, especially the notion that it's a high crime area.

Yes absolutely absurd. There are 5-10 regular homeless who I recognize, they will not bother you. If they do happen to ask for a dollar, you can ignore them or say no and they move on right away. Never had a problem with them but I also don’t think it should be allowed personally. Shelters or bus tickets.

We were just in Portland Maine last week. We could not get a reservation in several of the nicer restaurants. The downtown area was jammed with tourists and activity. It was safe and clean-one example of a downtown area that is certainly not dying.
Least diverse state in the country.

Downtown literally went downhill the second Kip was gone and SWB came in
She campaigned on spending less focus on downtown and more focus on NBR which her gravy infused base loved.
Of course the only thing that happened was downtown degraded and NBR still sucks and is probably not redeemable for a price BR can afford.
Investing in downtown areas can recoup some of that investment - simple things like business travelers being interested in bar hopping until 10pm instead of going back to the room at 8PM adds up over time, so of course we don’t want to do that.

The tax base has moved away and like me have no reason to go downtown BR, I could care less if cactuses start growing.

Except that you're less likely to be shot in the heart of downtown than you are in the rest of Baton Rouge.
