Besides judas, benedict arnold is the man who comes to mind when anyone thinks of a traitor. But is that reallu fair? There have been plenty of people who have switched sides in battles throughout history, and arnold was blackballed by the contintental Congress.
The man was all but forced to turncoat, but before he did he was instrumental in the contintental army. It is almost certain that without his victory at saratoga the war is lost and the united states never comes to fruition. So knowing this why is he looked upon with such disdain in american history?

It was immoral for the colonies to start the revolutionary war anyway.

Benedict Arnold's jealousy of George Washington over attention that he received was also a factor in this. Also, by the time Burgoyne reached Saratoga, his army was a leaderless shell that was really pretty easy pickings, and you're leaving out Horatio Gates altogether.

Well I've read the Divine Comedy, I've seen Empire Strikes Back and I've listened to Willie Nelson.

But I never heard of this Arnold guy.

ETA full disclosure, I've never read the Divine Comedy but in fairness nobody has.
