Otherwise, someone just staying at home just because they don't want to work and still getting a cut is bullshite.
If someone ends up paying alimony for someone who was purposefully underemployed (but not to stay home with the kids), they have a shitty lawyer.
The SO didn't have to pay alimony because his ex (with a Masters) was purposefully underemployed by working some soft arse job as a call center manager up until the last 6 months of their marriage. She had quit her job towards the end of the marriage because she figured out they could live on his salary alone and the kid was old enough that they were in school so she wasn't staying home with her.
She had a very rude awakening in mediation.

I would rightfully owe my wife alimony if we divorced. She gave up a career to stay home and raise our children. I respect and appreciate her doing that. If I decide I want to be with a younger woman and throw our agreement in the trash, I would absolutely owe her. It she cheated or crossed some other line, then hell no.

You say this as if it's universal but each state has their own divorce laws and some are more fair than others. You need to know the laws for the state you file in.

Is that a legit out, though? I think you owe regardless.

Oh no... I've been in an extremely happy marriage for 22 years.

Most states won't force you to pay someone alimony if they didn't give up their career to raise children. If they're just sitting at home or underemployed, a good lawyer can get you out of that.
It's just a matter of pushing the issue. And Kentucky has some shitty divorce laws, so I feel like that's probably consistent in most places.

It's not. I speak from experience.

Not really. Men get the shaft in divorce cases. This isn't debatable

There is no equality. And child support doesn't go to the child. Child support supports wine and casino for some miserable fat chick I know.
Congrats on having a deadbeat ex-wife. You chose poorly.

Maybe, I'm just giving my opinion.

I had a heated discussion with a coworker about this. If it’s about keeping a person’s lifestyle the same after the divorce, then why is $$ the only thing that remains. Should the ex still be forced to cook? How about blowjobs? I mean, if you got those during the marriage and that’s what you’re accustomed to…

No spousal support if you're caught cheating in Louisiana.
MOST spousal support ends after 180 days of the final divorce decree.

In Louisiana, if you file for divorce on grounds of adultery and the judge sided with you, there is no alimony owed to the guilty party and the divorce will be almost
immediate. Again, this all has to hinge on the fact that one has hard evidence that confirms or backs up the claim that the spouse was having an affair.

If I were to divorce my hubby I’m pretty sure he’d be entitled to alimony.
I’m also pretty sure he wouldn’t take it.

I mean if you're bitching about men not getting regular access to alimony, that's on them if they didn't pursue it if they're not the breadwinner. ?
I'm bitching about anyone getting money. Just happens men are the payers 97% of the time.
