Time to erase it from the law books.
Equality.
Equality.

I ask the same thing about you posting.

Dude, my feelings.
But seriously answer the question if you want. Why are people responsible for paying for someone else's life because they broke up?
I'm fine with child support. Take care of your kids.

There is no equality. And child support doesn't go to the child. Child support supports wine and casino for some miserable fat chick I know.

Alimony is gender neutral. If the wife out earns the man, they can ask for it. They just don’t.
Alimony is less common than it was 50 years ago. It’s only granted in 10% of divorce cases and is usually only temporary.

Chris Rock summed it up nicely “you go to McDonald’s you accustom to eating if you leave they don’t owe you a hamburger”

3% of alimony cases are men receiving. Doesn't sound neutral to me.

Did you read the rest of the sentence? It’s because they don’t ask for it.

My response was for you saying it was gender neutral.
I just responded it wasn't, because it isn't no matter if men don't ask for it or if it is more rare or temporary.
Not trying to be a smartass.

Men would get more alimony payments if their wives made more than they did in the marriage and they requested it. It's a pretty simple mechanism to figure out.

I mean if you're bitching about men not getting regular access to alimony, that's on them if they didn't pursue it if they're not the breadwinner.

As someone going through it… no kids… but she didn’t work so she got the house, her Mercedes and all the money she had been sluffing away into a separate bank account.
I got to keep my 401k… yay. Its all I have to my name.
Now I could have fought her in court for a year but, you know, I actually have a job for my dads company Chemlogic.
Young guys that aren’t married listen up… if you don’t plan on having kids, don’t date with paperwork that fricks you in the end. All that crap about doing the right thing by getting married, blah blah blah frick it

In circumstances where a wife (or husband) gave up a career to stay at home to raise kids as part of a mutual understanding of her/his role in building a life together it makes sense. They both had equal roles in building their life together and are entitled to the fruits of that labor. It can also be hard or impossible to just jump back in and make up those years of lost career development. This situation is less common nowadays, but it does still happen.
Otherwise, someone just staying at home just because they don't want to work and still getting a cut is bullshite.
