The trouble with New Orleans is not organized crime. It is unorganized crime that is the real problem.

Old folks always say that crime was never really all that bad in NOLA when the Mafia was still running things. After the fall of the NOLA Mafia, when the street hoods could do as they pleased, was when things went downhill.

Maybe im reading it or interpreting it wrong. When I read the murder of 5 heads of the families, im thinking 5 different crime families heads are murdered. Something like the godfather.

I may have used the wrong terminology then.. i know that the 4 members killed each had different last names.. i had assumed that they were each representative of different ‘families’, but maybe they just had different last names.. i obviously have not read as much as you have on the subject.. i do know that one of the family members present was my great great grandfather due to some genealogical work my cousin has done.. but i dont think it changes the spirit of the fact that the mafia in New Orleans has a long and storied history, and that this ‘assasination; as it’s called in the article, was historically noteworthy.

In my opinion the French Quarter was safer at that time. If you were spending money no one was going to screw with the cash register. (You). If you were an arse or trying to screw over the proprietors you ran into trouble.

This is so true. Lets just say that when it was voting time, things were good in the hood.

I read that Marcello's headquarters was at the old Town and Country Motel in Bucktown. It was in a book where the FBI did a sting on him and the state corruption in selling of the Insurance Commissioner position.

Spent time in Grand Isle at his camp “Riptide” also. Right across the street from the Oleander Hotel.
