Billions and billions spent on new roads.

Would be much cheaper to simply cut down on 18 wheeler traffic, most of that cargo could go on trains which is probably cheaper. I assume the truck lobby must be powerful.

Imagine a BR without an 18 wheeler flipping every couple hours

I hear Amtrak has gotten A LOT better but I once took it with a buddy to West Palm Beach over 10 years ago (we didn't want to take our cars).

It was disgusting and full of vagrants. Took us like almost two days to get there.

I hear they got a complete makeover but I don't know.

Id wager there is way more cargo moved in trains compared with 18 wheelers.

I priced the tickets to take the family to Chicago, it was cheaper to fly there.

Because trains don't drive up to the store and unload. You still need a truck for most products.

A good bit of truck freight has already been lost to the rail industry, it's significantly cheaper. Two glaringly obvious problems though, rail freight will typically be slower so sometimes it's not an option. You'll still need trucks to pickup at rail yards and deliver to the final location, not many rail lines making stops behind grocery stores, Walmarts, etc.

Are we going to put train tracks to every business? Eventually the product would have to get in a truck.

Unless you're a company like Nucor you don't have train tracks running around your business. Plus intermodal is slow
