Wait until you see old people ( or anyone) driving a 40000# RV.

Training?

Nah, check cleared, you're GTG.

How much harder can they make it? I failed the first 3 times
I remember my older sister returning home empty handed and in tears on her 16th birthday. apparently the fun kicked off with a few abysmal attempts at parallel parking and went downhill from there lmao

My dad has a PhD in polymer chemistry and failed the CA written test when they moved there in the late-90s. I had to take it to valet there one summer and passed on the first try. I’ve continued to hold that over his head the past 2.5+ decades.

There are trick questions where you have to read the booklet. He thought he knew it all. Sucker.

To give context, I have family member going through drivers ed and the driving part was driving around a block with no lights, all right turns, and then parking in an empty parking lot. Then he showed me the "materials" to study for the test and it was old tests and he flash card memorized them.

Ridiculous.

People ‘can’ drive…they’re just assholes.

Most people are terrible drivers and don't understand laws of the road. I see people constantly not knowing they can turn right on red, or not knowing how to zipper merge, or not understanding roundabouts, or not understanding different color blinking lights, or not using blinkers, no knowing how to park, etc.

ETA:

And they're assholes.

Oh you did it now. This topic will never be agreed on here.

Zipper merge is like communism…should work in theory…but people are petty assholes who will use any power they have (position in front of you) to frick you over.

I get on the interstate everyday where I live and the problem isn't assholes, it's people coming to a damn stop on the on ramp lane thinking that's the right thing to do or because they're scared to merge while accelerating. There's like 1.5 miles of runway in that lane and people just don't want to use it.

Another is left lane slow coasters. 90% of the time they have no idea that what they're doing is wrong.

Driving is the only thing that makes me hate people. I cuss people every single day.

On the way home yesterday a white minivan was driving right next to an SUV for 10 miles…70 in a 65…then as soon as she gets a car length or two ahead and the person in front of me can get over and pass her in the right lane she takes off. I have to go 90 to catch her only to mean mug the shite out of her from the right lane. She’s going 80. Just rode like that previously because she had the control to stop a line a traffic. I no longer give people the benefit of the doubt in whether they were simply being inconsiderate. Nope, frick you POS. I didn’t flip her the bird or raise my fist I just simply rode the same speed and kept looking over. She never looked back.

I would have to agree. A couple of months ago I took my niece to get her drivers license. Her actual road test probably took no more than 7 minutes. She went down a road for like 2 miles, turned into a neighborhood to turn around, and came back. They didn't even have to get on the interstate, which would seem like the most obvious thing for me.

I personally believe the driving test should be a lot more strict. Not only that, but there should be mandatory re-tests every 5-10 years or so. It would be a pain in the arse to deal with, but terrible drivers are an even bigger pain in the arse.

You should have to recertify every 5 years or so.

MeMaw with her early stage dementia shouldn’t be driving no matter how much she enjoys her independence

I can get behind this.

I’ve always said there should be another driving test once you hit a certain age. I’m sure we’ve all dealt with it but old loved ones that still wants maintain their independence driving is a battle.

My wife and her family have been dealing with this issue and her grandmother.
