The poster you responded too didn’t say the USA was no.1 at everything, he said the was top notch which just means excellent but not necessarily the absolute best. Considering European takes into account all of Europe, not just the western and the Scandinavian ones, it’s not far fetched to say the average American has a higher quality of life than the average European (once again this means all of Europe not just the top countries).

I mean, I don’t know about the guy’s qualifications, but Sicily is a real shite hole. Anyone who’s spent a decent amount of time there would agree. Ditto most of Greece. They make the Mississippi Delta look positively developed and successful.

Europe is a huge and diverse place - not sure why anyone would compare it to the US. The US has a higher standard of living in most parts, though, especially currency-adjusted.

Agree to disagree on food. I'll take cajun food over European food any day.

Media...who gives a shite? It's all trash

Fashion, art...yeah, I really don't care. I wear jeans. Fashion means nothing to me. And art is just a dumbass comparison. No one is going to argue that European art isn't the greatest in history.

Public spaces...lmao! Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, all of our National Wildlife Refuges, and National Forests say hello. Your little dinky public spaces can't hold a candle to ours.

Emotional Context...what??

Work Environment...sure, I guess. I really don't know what the European work environment is, but you mean to tell me it's the same in every European country?

They live longer and work less.

Kinda the point the article was trying to make.

There are parts on Europe better than America and there are parts of America that's better than Europe. London is objectively better than Lake Charles. Chicago is objectively better than Warsaw.

We're not #1 at most things. In fact, we're quite dismal in a world ranking of factors.

This is complete bullshite.

I've lived and worked in Austria, Germany, and the UK, and this is not true. What would make you say this?

You got this right, Americans work much harder than Europeans.

Yet they are much more productive in a shorter work week.

I've lived in both the USA and in Europe.

I disagree vehemently with your conclusion.

Makes total sense. That’s why European immigration numbers to the US far outweigh Americans moving to Europe.

There's a huge disparity between the quality of life between EU nations. It's like comparing California to the quality of life in Alabama.

the fact that we own more significant assets, bigger homes, and have a higher per capita GDP?

We saved their asses in WWI and WWII, and bore most of the cost of their defense throughout the Cold War, and still do to some extent today.

And every time we suggest they should shoulder more of their own defense burden they call us warmongers.

ETA: Hell, they won't even defend themselves against these Muslim invaders, much less Russia, etc.

If they had had to pay the real costs of their defense all these years, they would not have been able to afford their so-called superior social programs, which really aren't superior anyway.

Not quite, historian. We can argue all day.
