Why does the Human Jukebox get so much attention?

Everything I see from them sounds awful. It sounds like a larger version of a high school band. It has to be more because of the flash and dancers than the actual music, right?

I'm sure this isn't a popular opinion and I'll probably be called racist so flame away.

I agree that the actual sound may be sub par at times but it is a magnificent spectacle to watch that many people coordinate dance and song.

I knew people that played in the Jukebox for 4 years and the stories they told me of their pre season training sounded brutal.

Why single out Southern? All the black college bands are like this.

It's Southern's band.

They're really not that good. They're just flashy and play more "unique" songs.

I agree. They are terrible. They will play some song that is associated with the school and then some trendy hip hop song that’s popular and then they play some song so the girls and the instructor can dance.

I honestly think the really great NCAA marching bands that make huge tribute words or symbols and move in perfect symphony is way way way way more impressive to watch.

And you wouldn't know what song it was if the PA announcer didn't tell you.

Same shite at LSU. They'll say it's a song I know and it'll take 3/4 of the way thru the song before I finally catch on.

Actually they are very good as musicians with the dance and choreography being an addition. They come from all over the country to be in it. But like most marching bands they don’t sound well on TV and if you are not in the stadium it is hard to realize.

And I’d be willing to bet their isn’t one swinging dick in this thread that is at the game.

For the record I’m a right leaning WASP, in other words a minority, and I’ve been to 3 Bayou Classics and maybe a dozen games at Southern and Grambling. Try it sometime. They are highly entertaining and no reason to be scared.

No, a good musician would focus first on playing with control and not overblowing every note to play as loud and as blatty as possible and sounding like complete crap. When he can't do that simple thing you learn in sixth grade band class, maybe a good musician takes a step back and thinks, "You know, we sound like complete shite. Why don't we hold off on the dance moves until we get that fixed?".

The Human Jukebox is utter garbage. If that were Indiana University's band putting that tripe on the field, I guarantee you there would be a lot more people willing to say what a steaming load it is.

nobody said anyone was scared. I haven't ever been to an SU football game but I've been to quite a few baseball games. Good people and their consessions put LSU to complete shame. They actually grill their burgers. LSU should try it.
