Congrats on giving them diabetes and obesity.
@ronricks - educate yourself. The only ketchup available at Costco is Heinz Organic. There's nothing on the label your great grandparents wouldn't recognize, except for the word "organic".

You can cook better food at home than the euros because we have more, better foodstuffs that are in season much longer (or come from Central/South America when the season is over.)
That’s not true
The quality of our produce is very poor. Look at tomatoes, they’re flavorless, and when you cut into them the interior is white and pale.
We’ve gotten used to eating engineered food, like the red delicious which taste awful, and eating produce that is out of season, and which is often altered in some way, like bananas which are chemically ripened.
If you buy tomatoes in Europe’s they will be delicious (and nutritious). They’re not available year round. But that’s okay. And this is true down the line.

Here in Ponchatoula I know there is BIG difference in the strawberries these days compared to the ones we used to get 30, 40 years ago that were very sweet. The ones that are grown around here now have been genetically modified to look pretty, have a longer shelf life, produce a higher yield and more resistant to pests. There are couple of small farms that still grow some “Real” ones but, you won’t find them at the big Stawberry Festival.
I also remember when all these local dairy farms, (and there were plenty), got squeezed out by “Big Farma”. They even made it illegal to buy whole milk directly from those guys. I would bet there are plenty of Americans that have never even tasted real milk.

You choose where you buy produce. I'm not blowing farmers markets, but if you got some chickens, that baw has some tomatoes, problem solved. But where do you think the Piggly Wiggly you shop at gets your produce? Bitch to them. H-E-B doesn't have tomatoes with white cores (15+ years of experience, although I generally only bought Roma.)
The phenomenon of buying produce out of season is something the 1950s appeared to have invented. You're not supposed to get ripe *insert fruit or veg here* 12 months out of the year.
I've seen thousands of tons of tubers stocked on farm lands in Europe. Not everything is in season all the time. But I've damn sure been served, and bought, out of season stuff like tomatoes in Europe and the middle east many, many times. It's fine.
But you know what I can't get in the Middle East? Limes.

European Fanta is the color of regular orange juice.
I noticed the dye thing as well.
They use sugar instead of corn syrup in anything that calls for sugar.
Also food is only sold in season. I tried ordering Strawberry and cream for dessert twice and was told they weren't in season. As an American in used to all fruit bring available at any time.
Yes the tomatoes have more flavor. Also the grapes here are really good too.

Dude, up till a couple years ago, they only barely regulated internal food. Imports were treated far tighter than domestic

FDA is owned by big farms, and big chemical companies

wonder if Heinz actually makes a different product for Canada or if the labeling laws are just more specific in the US.
I just looked up Canadian Coke Ingredients and they list "sugar" where in the US we list HFCS.
I think you're on to something. Those ingredients on the ketchup aren't that different.
Coca Cola doesn't make a different version of coke for Canada, it's still HFCS.

You can take any product like Heinz ketchup for example sold in both US and Canada and look at the back, same size etc. It's pretty shocking. There's 20 plus ingredients in the US and less than half of that on the CN label. All in the name of a couple of extra weeks for shelf life expy date.
Ted Cruz would immediately film a YouTube video daring anyone from taking away his Heinz ketchup
And it would work because people are stupid

Everyone can make their own decisions and food choices. The fact that y’all eat regular full sugar ketchup is a telltale sign of the food iq around here

Best post in this thread.
I grow tomatoes, okra, garlic, bell peppers, and spices in my backyard and it’s work and sometimes exhausting. But anytime I don’t feel like doing it anymore I simply go to the store and eat a stir bought version side by side with mine. It’s no competition.

We eat foodlike products.
One of my favorites are cheese like products.
Velveeta is considered a “pasteurized process cheese product.” It is the same designation with Kraft Singles.
Many moons ago, I worked at a McDonald’s. They were looking to get rid of store sliced tomatoes. Instead the distribution center was going to ship presliced tomatoes. Unfortunately the first few runs didn’t work, the variety of tomatoes they were using started growing back together even when in the cooler. They eventually found the right process and variety but they cost to much and went back to regular tomatoes again.
Better living through science.

Alot of yall have it backwards. The FDA simply requires more things to be disclosed to the public, than other countries require. They're eating the alot of the same ingredients, they just don't know it, because it's not required to be on the label.
