I would agree food mislabeling is a huge problem. I'd rather fix that than just start banning foods that may or may not be deemed as unhealthy.

Agreed. Bans are stupid. Laws requiring ingredient transparency in big font though would be great.

Transporting food items over the distances involved in the continental US is unfathomable for most Europeans. Food is made locally because their population density allows it, and spoils very quickly. They spend a MUCH higher portion of their disposable income on food.

I remember coming back from a study abroad in college thinking we ate like kings in the US, and we do. This is the land of plenty.

Has less to do with preservatives and more to do with quantity vs. quality emphasized in the US market. You can cook better food at home than the euros because we have more, better foodstuffs that are in season much longer (or come from Central/South America when the season is over.)

Propylene Glycol is in a lot of foods, medicines, and products like shampoo and soaps.

Propylene glycol is the main ingredient in Anti-Freeze……

if you look at food content in other countries, they don’t have all the dyes, trisodium phosphates, and other crap that’s in our food. What is the purpose of the FDA if they are allowing all this crap

Ultimately the FDA is controlled by politicians, who are owned by business interests that benefit from selling cheap food even if harmful.

The US government is more interested in protecting corporations profits than the health of its citizens.

Im glad you brought this up. Europeans eat much more locally grown food which, although more expensive, it's likely a big reason they are generally healthier & live longer than Americans.

I wonder if Heinz actually makes a different product for Canada or if the labeling laws are just more specific in the US. Maybe in Canada you don’t have to include an ingredient if it’s less than 1% of the product or something. Also, US says “tomato extract” but Canada says “tomatoes.” I wonder if there is a difference in what they actually use or just what they have to disclose.

Payoffs. And there are a lot of all natural scientifically proven products that can’t make the cut.

Because a fat obese out of shape sickly low T populace is easier to control and it keeps things like Big Pharma in business. It amazes me how many people I work with that are on more than three prescription medications. It’s crazy. America is an obese and sick nation and only getting worse. Things like fatty liver are now showing up in children and teenagers. That’s hard to do at such a young age.

Read labels, cook your own foods and you'll be fine.

Sure Big Pharma & the FDA are in bed together, but the real culprit is Americans' laziness & addiction to whatever is most convenient.

Decades ago, our grandmothers cooked everything from scratch & knew every ingredient that went into a meal they served. Now, Ameroburgers cant be bothered to even look at the back of a box or can or bag to see what they're putting in their(and their kids') bodies.

Correct, then they scream for government to do something because they have no self control.

Why buy Heinz at all? I use Primal Kitchen ketchup. Get it at Wal Mart. Doesn’t have any if the processed stuff in it.

That’s not a totally accurate portrayal of facts though. Many items don’t have to be listed as ingredients in the U.K. (or elsewhere) so you end up with an abbreviated list.

Also, instead of HFCS they just use other sugars which ultimately has the same effect: witness the U.K.’s stellar dental situation and their obesity issues which are beginning to rival ours.

At least our labeling makes it possible for people to make informed decisions to avoid ingredients we’d prefer not to ingest.
