Why does school start so early in LA?

It won’t start here in Texas for three weeks and only lasts one week longer.
Starting on Aug. 8th seems asinine with the heat.

Louisiana is poor and broke. Seems like not starting school at the beginning of the hottest month of the year might save some money.

LA schools get a week off for Mardi Gras and Easter break. From talking with friends that live in other states they don't have the additional time off like we get here. That's all I got though. If it's not that, then I don't know.

Katy ISD starts 8/14.
I agree it’s too early. June-Aug should be summer break. For some reason Aug keeps getting chipped away. Soon some schools will be starting in July.

In the late 90s and early 00s we started in early September and got out in early June
