It’s been posted here several times recently that the number of applicants to LSU and the number of students admitted are as high as ever. Declining enrollment is not an issue.

How many of those applicants are LA students? TOPS utilization is not limited to LSU only. Previous article was about overall less TOPS utilization not less students at LSU

Over the past decade, the number of LSU undergrads from other states has nearly tripled, exceeding 12,000 students in 2024

They want bragging rights for being able to attract out of state students - especially honor students.
Bubba from down the bayou does not interest them.
I get it, but this is our state university and should serve our educational needs. Time to get their attention.

Too many kids from outside the state, who are not academically capable of succeeding at a major university, are allowed in, largely due to "holistic" and "test optional" admissions. This is a direct result of Tate's emphasis on DEI. Current interim most likely supports this based on his support of DEI.

"LSU is test optional. You will indicate on the Common Application whether or not you would like your ACT or SAT scores included in your evaluation for admission and university-administered scholarships".

Not sure.
For about five years now my friends who had kids in Catholic schools down here have had to send their kids out of state. Some even send theirs to ULL.
These are 3.9 GPA and 30 ACT kids. LSU laughs them off.
Agree. Has been going on for years. Out of state schools offer full scholarships and other perks for Louisiana National Merit students and LSU ignores them completely. Makes no sense, but Louisiana wants to bitch about the brain drain.

Big state universities seem to value out-of-state kids more.
I don’t know why.

Money. They can charge them a lot more...this has been stated many times in this thread.

Both my kids will be going to college out of state this year. My oldest goes to USM and only pays $1000 more for being out of state. Mississippi has done a great job to make it attractive. I heard U of Alabama has done the same while Auburn doesn't.

DISGUSTING, given the fact our tax dollars pay for the school.

Uh, you do realize that the exact reason in-state tuition is a thing and is less than out of state tuition is precisely BECAUSE you've been paying taxes to the school for years?

It's also why private universities do not have in state tuition. They don't receive direct funding from our taxes...thus, no "sweet deal" for the taxpayer.

I beg to differ. My daughter, who met all requirements, wasn’t accepted. I found it unacceptable and fought the admissions and emailed the board. She will be attending in the fall.

Don't look for things to change if the current interim president, Matt Lee, keeps the job permanently. Dude is a huge DEI proponent

The retards on this message board wanted to give him the permanent position because he spoke well at the baseball celebration.

I hope they’re generous to out of state legacies because my daughter is dead set on going to LSU. Part of me wants her to go there because it’s home for me, but the school and campus has changed.

After doing a few campus tours, LSU was hands down the worst to me. It felt like schools like Southeastern and Coastal Carolina offered more. All LSU bragged about was their name.

We have just under a year to make our final decision.

These days, in my rural area, LSU is the exception…when a decade ago it was the norm.

The smart kids usually go to:

Mississippi State
Ole Miss
UL-L
Louisiana Tech

Mississippi State seems to be targeting bright Louisiana students with laser focus.

It boils down to scholarships and parents money - the more of those, the bigger the out of state school the kids will go to.

I know, when I was starting to think about college, LSU just didn't have a great reputation academically to the point where my parents did not want me going there.

Of course, it didn't help at all, now that I think about it, that LSU made very little effort to get me on campus at all, despite having good grades. You hear about colleges giving ridiculous offers to highly-qualified students, but it definitely felt to me like LSU couldn't have cared less if I went there or not.
