My point was that you aren't going to go anywhere at a retail firm like EJ calling all of your broke 25 year old friends to open a Roth IRA.

That awkward attempt to "catch up" is much more in the wheelhouse of NW Mutual.

You're saying people at EJ don't call and ask to catch up? If so, that's way wrong

In the context of this thread, building your book by calling recent college grads to sell them something is far more an insurance thing than it is a retail investment thing.

Granted, NW Mutual offers investments and retail investment firms offer insurance, but you know what I mean.

I'm not knocking NW Mutual (insurance) or EJ (investments), just pointing out the difference in my experience.

The recent college grads that work at EJ definitely blow up their college friends.

Edward Jones offices are located in strip malls, they have a lower payout grid and their products on their platform are terrible. Merrill Lynch has offices in top locations, have higher payout ratios and you have access to top products.

They have completely different business models. I'm pretty sure both companies understand that very well.

You can make a might fine living one $500k 401k rollover at a time with retail firms.

I've had a couple buddies work at different places. The two at EJ had to door knock. They're not trained to prospect 25 y/o people to my knowledge.

Actually a very underrated option. Turnover is crazy high at Enterprise so you can move up quickly.

As for EJ, what did they do to upset you so much?

Inflation must be out of control because my insurance guy calls every 6 months to tell me I need more.

This is honestly one of the easiest jobs to automate. When I took out my own spreadsheets showing how much I need, the rehearsed pitch stopped pretty quick. I bought what I need to cover house, kids, college, etc. I don’t need so much that my widow and her new husband can live out their lives in Tahiti.

I’ve looked into EJ for financial management and the fees were ridiculous. I think it was 1%/yr for everything under management and they want you in their products. I’m a low fee passed be investing guy and have done just fine.

I seem to really touch a nerve with you. Do I describe your life to a t and make you feel insecure?

That’s a broad term. Wouldn’t a neurosurgeon be consider “technical labor”?

You know what I meant and that would be an advanced degree. Fabricating metal is more skilled labor than unskilled, that's why I referred to it as that.
