Why do we cherish religion so much, but let the media exploit and profit off of it?

Do a better job of explaining your thesis. Religion seems to be ridiculed more than cherished

Why should something be cherished if it is a 1.2 Trillion dollar industry?

Do you pray to Nike every night? And give thanks to the winged goddess?

What do you mean “let the media exploit...”

The media makes money using religion. Using words, phrases, situations, etc.

Also, look at the industry in general with super churches, clergy members getting in trouble, and whatever else.

I found that financial number this morning and it is mind blowing how big of a number it is and what is being made off of religion.

I still don't really get where you're trying to go with this, unless this is another opiate of the masses argument.

Plenty of people ridicule religion in general. Plenty of religious people ridicule the Joel Osteen's and Jimmy Swaggart's of the world.

Money collected by "religion" can be used for worthwhile purposes - there are a ton of religious charities doing great work. There are also the mega pastors trying to justify a new jet. Up to rational people to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Most religions are based on an invisible man who gets angry when you do fun things like drink, jerk off, and sleep around.

Makes sense to me that people who believe in such things would be a little stupid with their money.

What?

Do you mean they try to relate to religious people in their rhetoric? If so, they pretty much do that to every imaginable demographic.
