Well I'm not trash or associate with trash who would prioritize drinking and smoking over their children so...

I did quit after a few weeks but since most people didn't see or know about the true extent of the struggle, I'm sure they thought I just gave up willy nilly and was lazy. They didn't see that there were days I literally went from pumping to bottle feeding that milk and right back to pumping for the next feed. When I went back to work, I didn't have time to continue. Those aren't excuses, that was reality. Happened to a lot of my friends as well but most people don't talk about how hard it really is and most women don't talk about it with men WHO DON'T GET IT. And while my husband knew the struggle, he wasn't there when I was sobbing night after night after night alone trying and feeling like I was failing to be a good mom. It wasn't that he didn't care, I just didn't want him to think I was a failure so I kept a lot from him. When I tried to find support and help all I got was, "You're not trying hard enough. You don't want it enough to make it work" which made me feel even worse. So you might want to think that you know the whole story with these "lazy women" who just gave up for simple reasons but you don't.

Here's the thing. If you get rid of formula from these programs, it isn't going to magically make these women not have babies. But probably what will happen is that these babies will be given some sort of homemade formula made with evaporated milk and corn syrup or straight cow's milk that does not contain the proper nutrients for healthy body and brain growth. Or they will be given food that is not age appropriate. That leads to brains not being properly developed and setting children up for obesity and health issues down the road that are FAR more expensive than the $1,200/yr it costs (retail) to just give it away to the most vulnerable.

And to those magical exclusively breastfeeding years hundreds of years ago? Commercial formula *did* exist in the late 1800s and before that there were wet nurses. So there were there other options just like we have formula readily available today and women did take advantage if they were able to.

You typed a whole lot of words to say "it was harder than I felt like dealing with so I gave up."

Ironic given you've been hammering away at the keyboard for 5 pages when "I'm an a-hole" would have sufficed back in the OP.

Well that last one was just being an insensitive prick because I knew I'd get a rise. I wasn't totally serious.

In all seriousness I understand the plight mothers today can face. And how easy it is to take an out that is so readily there. That's what modern society is. We've made easy outs to damn near everything. But just because we can take those outs...doesn't mean we should. Maybe in some ways the old ways were better. Maybe there's a happy medium. Or maybe doing something, even though it's difficult, or perhaps even because it's difficult can reap us a greater harvest in the long run.

Do you want babies breast-feeding from their mother who just smoked from her crack pipe and chugged a purple drank?

No, I want to remove the children from those influences before they are corrupted, sterilize their parents, and eventually save the community through such action.

The trajectory it's on is certain doom at this rate.

And that may be the case in some instances. I think there are valid reasons to either exclusively feed with formula or supplement, but moms are way to quick to give up on or never try breastfeeding for selfish reasons.

Selfish reasons? Sounds like a lazy dad who doesn't want to get up in the middle of the night to feed his baby. Let the tits do it.

Honestly it would save BILLIONS if we took kids from unfit parents and raised them through goverment sponsored orphanages.

Don't you think the children actually deserve a chance instead of an almost guarantee to repeat the shitty cycle of their shitty parents?

BILLIONS - just on the WIC and Welfare savings.

Make it a tax deductible donation --- BOOM , my new favorite charity.

I strongly believe this would work.

frick SHITTY PARENTS, your child is not a SOURCE OF INCOME.

Breastfeeding is hard, and for some kids - not possible.

However, isn't step one of being a parent -- SACRIFICE? Everyone should try and try their very best. If it does not work out so be it... Breast milk is also far better for you than formula so , to which loving mother is the struggle not worth it?

I wonder what the percentages of breastfeeding are for mothers on the dole and mothers not.

Something tells me, those not getting all the free shite are breastfeeding at a higher percentage...

You've gone all in on the breast is best myth. Sad really, but expected from someone who can't think his way through why the government pays for formula for people on food stamps.

Not all women can breastfeed. My wife had an emergency C section and developed complications so it was never an option for her even though she had her heart set on it before shite happened.

Why do you guys get so caught up on welfare programs that, no matter what, still end up back in the economy?

You spend something like $15 of your annual taxes on these programs but something like hundreds of dollars on corporate bailouts, tax cuts, hand outs, and nary a word.

So just so I'm clear... you don't want the government to have to pay for formula, but you're OK with the government taking a child into CPS and all the costs associated with feeding, clothing, sheltering, and placing that child?

Well, to be fair to the OP's perspective, he is asserting that the government is essentially doing that anyway for these individuals.

Except only a fraction of the money provided for the child actually goes to the child.

Would absolutely love for you to put up any numbers that would support a result even in the same order of magnitude as the bullshite you just gave

Which leads to the second point:

Well that explains quite a bit.

Namely, you are so ignorant of how the economy works that you think its no big deal where money goes, it is a closed system.

Here is a hint: the primary indicator of the strength of an economy is the gross domestic product. The combined value of all the goods and services produced in the country in a given year. The more workers doing more efficient work producing a valued product, the better for us all.

With welfare, we have a complex system that enables people to be less productive than they can...just because. Initially formed as a safety net, it has grown to a lifestyle that actually encourages participants to make less momey and contribute less to the economy.

And those in the middle class have to continually watch more and more of their hard earned money to go to people who have a vocal entitlement mentality...and be told that to argue against it means you are an evil person trying to withhold human rights from another.
