Say what you will, but the empire was effective. Central command structure eliminated much of the bureaucracy, they were able to construct such things as 1 & 3/4 Death Stars. They defeated the separatists and wiped out the Jedi.
Brought order to the galaxy.
Who were the real bad guys?

What was the infant mortality rate 100 years ago?
I'm sure it was much higher. You attribute that to breastfeeding? You think there were a significant number of infants starving to death 100 years ago?

I think the lack of access to proper nutrition when Mom couldn't produce adequate milk contributed, yes. Obviously there are other factors, but the point was this "well 100 years ago nobody did _____" line of reasoning is stupid. We have better outcomes now and part of that is access to proper nutrition regardless of Mom's ability to breastfeed

And that may be the case in some instances. I think there are valid reasons to either exclusively feed with formula or supplement, but moms are way to quick to give up on or never try breastfeeding for selfish reasons.

Why do we buy formula for people on the dole?
I agree, why aren't they sterilized if they've been on the dole for more than a year?

You really think this isn't the case?
I've seen moms give it up after a few weeks because they couldn't smoke, or drink, or whatever.
Or it hurt. Or they didn't have time.
Always an excuse. Why? Because the option not to existed. If the only choice for their baby to be fed was to breast feed them I'm sure they would do it.
They aren't terrible mothers. It's just this damn society we have become. "Progress" they call it. But mom's have to work so they can't take care of their babies. Because we've eschewed the natural order. We've made jobs and money worth less so even if the father is in the picture sometimes both have to work to support ever increasing costs.
It's a shite trade-off for what we got for the most part.

Because they know that because they're on welfare they're gonna grow up to be criminals, the govt gives them formula so they won't grow very big so the prison cells won't have to be so big
it saves money in the long run

Then we should swap all the men out with midgets. That way we can just double stack them.

WIC is a very well ran program and if food stamps and welfare was ran anywhere near as efficient as WIC we'd all be in a much better place.
Its my understanding with WIC, recipients get vouchers for specific items to use it on...formula, baby food, diapers, and so on. This is what food stamps needs to be like. Tired of seeing grocery baskets loaded to the brim with all kinds of junk food, sodas, ribeyes, and prime rib...and they whip out a Louisiana Purchase EBT card at the checkout. Or at the seafood store buying 20 lbs of boiled crawfish on EBT, especially when its early in the season and still $5/lb

That's why you completely eliminate any choice they have in the matter, because experience has shown that, when people who have a history of bad decisions are allowed to make decisions with other people's money, they will continue to make bad decisions.
You give them a sack of beans and a sack of rice and some vegetables. Powdered milk and eggs. There you go. Come back in a month. You want something different go get a job and don't spend your money on a weave and getting your nails did, or Mountain Dew and Meth.

I have, for years, advocated a flavorless government porridge, that provides people with their 100% nutritional value.
The argument has always been that the government NEEDS to feed the poor and ensure no one starves to death. Fair enough. Then do so with a flavorless porridge that is doled out to those in need. It can be picked up at service centers across America.
It will create a huge industry and numerous jobs, producing and distributing government porridge. It shifts the money going to people for free, to those now producing and distributing, thus, it's being earned. It feeds the poor, and provides 100% nutrition.
Most importantly, it provides an incentive for those on the porridge. If you get tired of eating porridge, earn money, and eat what you like. Otherwise, you can't complain that you're starving. You're being fed by the government. But you're not eating steak, seafood, etc. on the government's dime. However, you can eat it freely on your own dime.

No, I have a job. I'm in love with delicious steak and seafood.
OK, to be honest, I'm somewhat in love with the word "porridge". And "gruel".
