To watch the tv? I’m here in Florida where there is no hurricane and the people on tv are telling me what to do. The people in the middle of the hurricane have no power so they cannot watch what the people on tv are telling them what the should be doing.

During Hurricane Charley the news stations were broadcasting on the local radio stations. I had no power but was able to listen to the updates.

Same happened last year with Irma.

Because they are telling people who are interested in what is happening with the hurricane so that they can prepare for when one hits them.

THIS. I can’t remember which of the Toms it was. I want to say WESH but it was the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics (which we watched until the power flickered off.) Parts of the area didn’t get hit with the outage. UCF/Sanford/Deltona were all on the business side of that hurricane. We spent the next 3 days at hotels close to LBV.

So if you were the manager at the station during a hurricane, would you just shut it down, run Roseanne reruns, or what?

Call phones and tablets are portable and a game changer when it comes to delivering information when other means deteriorate. Portable power banks help keep you charged. Plus power often remains on for quite some time in the period leading up to the worst so why not broadcast, you're broadcasting to a region anyway.
