Seems to strike a nerve with you.

Frugality is a worthy value. Consumerism is vapid, brainless activity.

Guy I hunt with does his grocery shopping at dollar general. Occasionally he might splurge and stop in Aldi.

No buddy, I dont want any of your tortilla chips that taste worse than the bag they came in. I dont want to wipe my arse with DG toilet paper. I dont even want your greyish colored steak on the grill, it might touch my ribeye.

Dude is so cheap he could squeeze a penny until the head is on both sides.

Things that scream cheap screw to me are the people who's idea of best deal is making the seller take a loss but then want top dollar and then some when they are selling.

Also people that won't contribute to group events, or, if they do, bring the cheapest thing possible while going to town on the good stuff others brought.

I get it if you're hard up, but I know the ones who can do more but choose not to.

My wife had an uncle that came to visit us and drove from cross town. The first thing out of his mouth was usually “I get 24 mpg out of this car and I got it real cheap, $xxx less than it usually sells for.” “Look at this gun I got from this old boy. He wanted $300 and I gave him $140, can’t beat that.”
My wallet here is 22 years old and……. I got tired of hearing his schtick at times.

Nearly 90% of any conversation was about hosing someone on a deal. And. He was Italian so……….

During the snow event my neighbor made the comment that they were going to start their fireplace but then realized that burning wood for the fireplace is just like catching money on fire.

I wanted to say, “every time you get in your vehicle you’re catching money on fire, maybe you shouldn’t drive”.

I’m not talking about budgeting and saving a buck here and there. I’m talking about people always wanting something for free, ask if people are “giving away” an item that nobody ever is, taking napkins etc from restaurants.

Truly, the last attractive trait a person can have from my perspective.

These types don’t value their time generally either.
Absurdly correct.

The most annoying people in cheap O world are those who drive all over just to save like 10 cents a gallon on gas. Congrats on saving 2 bucks on a 20 gallon fill up I guess
I would argue you don't have to become even THAT successful simply to be indifferent to the price of gas. People always ask me "what is it where you live" and I tell them I legit don't know.

The person that sparked my Q makes 800-900k a year. Spent I'd say 6-8 months trying to find a nintendo switch for under market value. Also always asks for something for next to nothing or free.
I would actively pay someone not to have to do this.

Extended family members very well off and every year they bring shite for the Dirty Santa game that is clearly under the money limit or food shite that is expired.

Is it any worse than bragging about all the stuff you have while being one paycheck away from bankruptcy?

However, whenever a kid comes to the door selling candy bars or cookies for scouts and athletics, he buys more than he can eat because he isn't cheap.

I don't think this is a good example of being cheap. The amount of product purchased doesn't matter if I didn't need or necessarily want any cookies or candy to begin. In that case, any purchase at all is a nice gesture.

Financially responsible I have no problem with. Cheap as frick, get out of here with that shite.

Back when my kid was in high school, we had football club luncheon every Friday. One of the football dads would come to the meeting and tell the lady taking the money that he was not gonna be eating. It was $10 dollars for lunch.

He would stop by the tea line and fix him some tea, and then tell one of the other dads to get him a couple pieces of fish/chicken when they fixed their plate. Annoyed the piss out of me.

Overall, all of life's choices come down to time versus money. You spend the most of both of these wherever your priorities lie.

I don't mean it as criticism either way. At that time in my life, I was more concerned with saving money, so I would spend the time (I look back and am amazed at how much free time I had then) wash/repair/conserve things versus regularly buying things to just use up and throw away. Fast forward 20 years, the time and money equation looks a lot different.

My CEO (who has millions in investments and retirement accounts as well as several houses) has not paid for a cup of coffee since the early 90s. He drinks about 4-5 cups per day.
