I find that people who drink like to talk about how much they drink much more than people who don't ever bring it up.

And recent sober quit smoker. Or the best someone who just found religion. They shout it from the rooftops. Similar to gays actually.

Why do drinkers feel the need to post photos of what they are drinking?

I don't care about someone saying why/if they stopped drinking if they don't start preaching to or judging me about drinking.

I haven’t drank in 3 years. I never bring it up unless someone asks if I want a beer. Having said that, I get annoyed when people try to hide the fact that they are drinking when I’m around. I’m at the stage in my life I don’t care what people do.. I simply don’t drink anymore and I don’t care if it is around me

I've never told someone I don't drink anymore unless it comes up organically. I'm not against discussing it, so when it surfaces, it gets discussed sometimes. For instance I went to a family wedding this weekend. Probably 2 or 3 times I get asked why I don't get a beer. I just say I don't drink anymore. Sometimes it ends there. Most times I get asked why. You'd be surprised how many times people who know you push with a "c'mon man, grab a beer" and then are genuinely curious when you say you cut it out of your life. It's only been 18 months since I quit and surprisingly it comes up more than you think. At least with friends and family that I used to drink a lot with.

There is oftentimes immense social pressure to consume alcohol, especially if you live in the Rosary Belt. I have some friends who don't drink and the way they seem to avoid pressure is to get a non-alcoholic drink that looks like booze, such as a soda and lime or cranberry juice with a little water (to look like wine).

I've never in my life asked someone why they didn't drink. I have, of course, asked my buddies to have another drink or two, just because I didn't want the good times to end, but for no other reason.

Maybe it’s like a defense mechanism to avoid being offered a drink?

Is your experience that they come up to you and they say “I don’t drink anymore, sober x days” to start the conversation?

Or do you say hey, want to grab a beer first?

bullshite. You just stop drinking it.

It REALLY is that easy.

Same with cigarettes and chewing tobacco. You just put it down.

Nothing to be proud about.

Some people have to hear/read themselves say it. It’s an affirmation.

Others need praise as their fuel.

If it works, let em be.

Because they worked really hard to get sober. Its not easy for addicted people. Let them bask in their accomplishments. Addiction is the devil...

You should try out a career as a motivational speaker. I bet people will be blown away by your novel approach.

The party just got a bit too wild for a bit, unfortunately a lot of the people in our whole friend group have suffered with it but it's all good.

I'm an ex-cigarette smoker and couldn't care less if you smoke. Just don't do it around me.

Most of them allowed the drinking to take over their life. Most of them lost everything they loved. They've found a release and it feels amazing. I'm definitely not sober, but my father has been for over 30 years. I have found myself drinking less. A few beers with crawfish, and one good bourbon during an LSU game.

Drinking to get drunk is no longer my goal.
