Several factors:
Helicopter parents that did t let their kids roam freely and play outside unsupervised. When I was a kid in the late 70’s growing up in Central we ran the neighborhood and woods and bayous from sun up to sundown. Our parents had no clue what we were up to. We were feral. That instills confidence and a drive to explore and take risks. Kids today have been conditioned to be risk averse and only understand organized structured play.
The internet has made physical location irrelevant. Kids can “hang out” online for hours and never leave their bedroom. So they aren’t driven to seek each other out in person.
The internet has also killed their need to physically seek out relationships. They have access to millions of hours of porn, why put in the effort to try to actually meet someone? It’s too risky and too much work.
Lastly, they can Uber everywhere they want to go. So why bother?

This has been a thing for a while. My son turned 16 in 2012 and he had zero interest in getting his DL. I asked why. He said why should I, when I have you to drive me around? Well that stopped that. Forced him to get his permit. Now he lives in downtown Chicago with no need to drive. Full circle!

Letting an underaged kid drive around without a license is incredibly dangerous, stupid, and illegal. It has NOTHING to do with manliness. You don’t have to be a fricking idiot to be manly.
You pusses would have never made it through the 70s. Folks smoked everywhere, no warning labels on anything, no seat belts, car seats, GSP or backup cameras and parents sent their kids to the store to buy beer and cigs. Every kid stayed out until dark all summer and every weekend. No cell phones and parents had no idea where we were. Kids rode in the back of trucks all over. I was driving well before my license and so were all my friends and buying beer long before age 18.
God, what have we become? Will men use get weaker and weaker?
Whinier and whinier?

Apparently so because you sound very triggered (indicating that you’re mentally weak and whiny). Take a look in the mirror, dude.

You responded first and keep responding, if your feelings weren't hurt, you wouldn't respond. You started this, not me.

I don't understand it. Getting my license was the first real taste of freedom.
100% this but my 16 yo daughter could care less about getting her license. Blows my mind too. My wife has already told her that she could have her SUV so it's not like she would be getting a beater. The reason is she has a few friends that drive and these girls don't mind picking up the entire herd so she has been indifferent about getting it. The only downside is that she gets picked up real early for school since she is like first on the rotation and she hates that, so now that she is about to be a Junior and can get a parking spot at her high school, interest has picked up.
I will say not paying that higher car insurance note isn't bothering me either.

Nah, you started it with your original post.
Don’t post on a message board if you don’t want responses.
You won’t convince me that any manly man should let his underaged kids drive around town with no license. No responsible adult should permit that. It’s VERY dangerous and completely inconsiderate of everyone else on the road. Apparently you don’t care about anyone but yourself.
Also, you evidently feel that following state law is optional. If you’re irresponsible enough to allow driving without a license, then you’re probably also the kind of POS who thinks car insurance is optional. We have lots of those in Louisiana, so you’re likely one of them.
