re: Why do so many people tan/sunbathe and not care about the risk of skin cancer?

Has anyone mentioned the chatter lately about sunglasses causing skin damage? It’s a bit out there but has me very intrigued.
Essentially, the claim is that wearing sunglasses disables some type of mechanism the body would use to protect the skin from the sun, since you prevent the feedback.

Is there any legit proof behind this, or is it just more tinfoil people?

I'm not arguing that too much sun causes skin cancer. I'm saying that sunscreen is absorbed through your skin and may cause other types of cancer, hormone disruption, etc.
This is what I wrote. Your response makes no sense.

No, but I wouldn't be surprised. Our bodies are amazingly made! Every time one system gets out of whack, it starts to affect others.

They have not used it for confirmed spots on me. Both BCC and SCC.
You gotta be 50 plus. That's how long it takes for that stuff to simmer. With the exception of a few unfortunate blue-eyed blonde and red-headed people who sun bathed and tanning bed cooked in their teens, it takes a while for some of these cancers to take.
And for those of you who don't believe, you ought to see who hangs out in a dermatologist office on a typical week day. Lately I've seen very few kids with acne. Just a lot of leathery, blotchy age-spotted old people.

I am a honest believer that skin cancer is more hereditary than not.
I have probably spent more time in the direct sun than anyone on this page that is of my age. I have never worn long sleeves, just use good sunscreen. I have never had any spot on my body that was in need of any attention. I see a dermatologist twice a year. My parents also never had any skin problems.
My wife, on the other hand who spends more of her time inside, has had at least seven or eight things burned off of her. Same with her parents.
I'm not saying I won't get skin cancer or anything like that, I'm just saying I think it has more to do with your genes than anything.

Have you ever been to a dermatologist? The same people who inject Botox, lip filler, and prescribe something akin to bleach for "sun spots"?
lol true these people shouldn’t be dictating best practice.
At least it seems the “sunscreen is only good” stage is over and now it’s a bit more cover up if one prefers to minimize exposure. I wear sunscreen at times to avoid a real burn, but I’m in no delusion that spraying a petroleum product all over my skin is not a “wonder paste” and no harm like it was made out to be years ago.

Look up the reef 104 act. Sunscreen is killing reefs. Sounds natural, right? Look up the ingredients in your sunscreen and your chapstick.

If those products were truly dangerous then they wouldn’t be approved by the FDA for human use

I’ve had some pre-cancerous spots removed before. Spent yesterday getting some sun by the pool. Zero fricks given.

I am in Destin right now. No one seems to be concerned.
