New Orleans has more untapped and wasted potential than any other city in the country. New Orleans COULD be one of the greatest places in the country to live and work. And the people of New Orleans continue to elect idiots that make it worse and worse. That’s my biggest issue with the city.

That’s because the absolute trash have the same vote as productive citizens. And productive citizens are forced to subsidize the endless breeding of the worst demographics of the city.

We’re being outbred, plain and simple. As long as those with no skin in the game can vote themselves handouts, and screw like rabbits, things will get worse.

Eventually they’ll break the system and slaughter the golden goose.

It will end like it always has, with fire and blood.

Maybe once the ashes settle something worthwhile can rise from the flames.

I have no idea what you are talking about. What’s worse about New Orleans since Katrina:

CBD hasn’t 6000 new condos and apartments which has increased retail and other amenities.

Pretty much every major artery I travel has been or is being renovated

The value of my house has increased 150%

The economy is more diversified and incomes have increase.

Crime still sucks is about the only downside I can think of but I’ve never been the victim of crime.

Please educate me on the decline

From speaking to my dad and his generation, Nola was once an almost magical place to live. It had real industry, real jobs, and was more than simply a Disneyland for adults. The public schools were fine. But it’s suffered from the same urban decay as many American cities and that’s what is sad. This wonderfully historic city has been overwhelmed by the trash.

it's got crime, urban decay, a freeloading underclass, a corrupt government, etc.

This is my experience.

Theres been lots of in investment from out of towners tryin to turn a quick buck but its not enough to overcome the urban blight taking over.

Used to love visiting but the experience has greatly declined

I’ve lived all over this state, lake Charles, natchitoches, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette.

New Orleans is a horrible place to live, and I’m glad I’m in Lafayette.

Serious question - why all the moves around the state and why not try living in another state? Genuinely curious.

I just wish the original plans for I-10 had been implemented that took it right through the French quarter. Could have killed that shite hole for good 50 years ago.

In BR and the other cities you used as comparables, there are "good" and "bad" areas. In NOLA it's all merged. I watched a ice cream truck get he's up in lakeview. My ex-MIL got held up in the garden district.

Additionally, with the billions that were pumped in post Katrina - it actually got worse.

My biggest beef was Mayor Nagin asking for a chocolate city and the idiots voted him back in. See what would happen if it were the other way around. Too much stupidity in one place for my liking.

Bottom line.....it's NOLA........it's STILL a shithole, and people that live there and defend that place have obviously never been out of the city.....

But, to each their own........ROCK ON!!!

Believe it or not but New Orleans is better off now than it’s ever been.

Up until last night.

Thank God you showed up. I’m sick of sticking up for, or at least not knocking, New Orleans.

I saw it earlier but ignored it, I? had much better things to do.

What a beautiful day in the city. Weather was gorgeous, saints win big at home, my son played a doubleheader today against and with some of the best players in the metro area. With thanksgiving next week the city is electric. Wonderful time of year to visit the City. 12 million visitors a year and that number keeps growing
