We went to a permanent hybrid schedule. It's unlikely we'll ever go back to the office full time.

Doesn’t bother me but I did hear a tech billionaire make a good observation regarding working from home. Basically, once your company realizes you can do your job effectively, (for some), then the next step is to have that job done for a fraction of the price from India, the Philippines or some other 3rd world country

This doesn't bother me. You get what you pay for. I've seen this happen in the IT department of my wife's company and it's been a disaster. Employees will allow their tech to be completely fricked up because they don't want to deal with the stress of not being able to communicate with an overseas worker. I'm sure the company has saved money, but they make it up with suffering elsewhere.

You don’t do shite and have a worthless job.

Just about every WFH person I know is a “pretend to work” produce nothing of value desk warmer.

I've worked for a company that had this and payroll all outsourced. Fact is personnel costs are a huge part of a company's direct costs. If they can cut that cost and improve their bottom lines, you better believe they will do it.

I'll never go back to remote work, unless its seasonal. Like doing winter work from home.

I enjoy the people, interactions and such, and don't like mixing work and home life, which is inevitable in those situations.

What's really annoying about work from home is how it's managed. Some job postings have work from home 100% listed, then travel potential at 75% for "site visits". Or better yet some companies offering work from home for specific positions and not others.

This trend had and will only continue to piss people off.

Sounds like a job that can easily be done in the office

So, you’re doing outside sales. That is not WFH and I’m sure you have a 1/2 day or so per week in an office. Salesmen are out selling and while they may not show up in corporate that often, they are usually on the road selling.

There are lots of people working from home who are in the transportation business, for example. They receive orders, arrange shipping, fill out shipping documents. This can be done at home.

My office is my home lol. Most of my sales calls are through zoom. There are networking events and drop ins but it is a liability for me to waste 3 hours of my day to get to and back from work.

The jobs that can be outsourced to India can be done so because of the simplicity of the job not because it can be done remotely.

I have to communicate with CEOs, High profile doctors, and Shareholders on a regular basis. It would be pretty stupid for my company to send my job to some random unskilled Indian working 6pm to 2am their time to do my job. In addition, remote work means the company isn’t limited to localized talent or hedging against someone moving from Denver, Colorado and quitting because he or she hates DC.

So you don’t go on sales calls? It’s all done through a computer from home? Sounds like some enterprising competitor would have an easy time stealing your customers.

My point was that few sales people ever came to the office prior to Covid vpbut I wouldn’t call that the typical WFH job, since they are outside selling, 90% of the time

I chuckle at the people who cling to working from home out of fear of being exposed to covid.

When vendor salesmen send me zoom call invitations for sales calls I universally decline them. I dont mind discussing an active project via zoom with a group, but don't pull that weak arse shite on me just to find out what's going on. Drive your arse over here and buy me lunch.

You’re an idiot. Zoom/teams/video calls do not result in new sales. In person calls and meetings still dominate sales, as it’s still a personal relationship business

Lol, lol, lol. Do you use lol on zoom calls? You are definitely a target for your competition or even more ironic, to be replaced by some dude in Mumbai who calls himself Malcolm, lol.

Is this one of those “I’m going to make up a complaint from other people about my lifestyle so I can be a victim too” moments? It feels like one
