Why do so many in NOLA flaunt the logo of their oppressors?

In orleans parish there is no worse entity than the Sewage and Water board. They are inept and they commit mail fraud daily by sending outrageous bills to their users. $2000 here, $6000 there. No factual basis in those amounts, just defrauding users many who pay without question. Months go by without reading the meters. It's sad, yet people want to put their logo in everything??
frick the sewage and water board. No entity hurts the city more than them and I'm including the block drug gangs.
This "iconic meter cover" shouldn't be celebrated. It should be scraped. The sewage and water board should be disbanded and rebuilt and all references to this image avoided.

How long has it been since you paid your water bill?

Because that is a symbol of New Orleans past.

I've been fighting a final bill from a property I sold in July. They didn't do an "actual" reading. Instead, they performed an "estimate."
How does one estimate a final bill?
The only reason I caught it was bc the estimate was 4 times my monthly average for the prior year, and the month was shortened bc of the sale.

Well we have disputed ours several times and their process includes someone checking the meter and gone in 10 seconds.
Final result is always it is accurate.

Northeastern and California transplants and hipsters is your answer.

Do what everyone else does, don't pay it

I'm not. I told them to sue me. I'd love to have them explain their argument to a judge.

Locals love that logo too. It may be the best thing a city worker has ever come up with.

I agree. It's nonsensical. Whatever happened to those jabronies who got caught trying to resell the stolen copper and fittings a year or two back?

Maybe it is as an ironic meter cover.

My notes reflect that on 12/3/20, they still hadn't sent someone to check. I asked "what good will that do, since someone has been living there since July."
It's corruption.

I live in Kenner and my bill is never more than $50-70.
But I just saw a friend on my feed had their last bill of $399 which is insane. Then a sewage repair, then a water bill of $3200 for one month.
This isn't isolated. I talk to customers all the time with issues. Almost all in mid city and uptown.
They send out these bills, some pay them without question others get angry. Though no one does anything about it.

The estimates are a racket.
You know the drill, right? Get a plumber to make sure it's not on your end. Call it in, contest the bill. Pay what you usually get charged every month while you wait for them to "investigate." Contest every month until you get the letter saying their "investigation" indicates they're "not at fault." Then you call them back and request a hearing. Months later, you'll get a letter saying when your hearing is scheduled (non-negotiable.) When you go to the hearing, months after that, they'll put you in a tiny room with an auditor and give you a document showing the outstanding billing, highlighted with the obvious shite they should have caught during their "investigation" and ask you, "What are you looking to get out this hearing?" To which you'll say something along the lines of a fricking fair shake on the billing. Then they'll quote you a figure that will be reasonable as it's going to get and you'll see the credit and new billing on your next arbitrary billing cycle.

Yes. If I send you a bill for an amount I know you do not owe and then demand that amount from you i am committing mail fraud. They blame their software.
Mail fraud.
Mail fraud.
