Thanks for the replies!
I just did some google research and am stunned by the following:
More than 35 million Americans do not have any teeth, and 178 million people in the U.S. are missing at least one tooth. These numbers are expected to grow in the next two decades.

The same reason poor people are usually the people who are poor. They dgaf enough to change the situation.

No it's not a serious question

can't say I completely agree with that in this situation. I got a root canal and crown a while back that totaled out to over $2,000 for a single tooth. Luckily, I make decent money and was able to cover it. However, that amount of money would be out of reach of a heck of a lot of people that I know and wouldn't consider to be poor.

well water without flouride has a lot to do with it. Combine that with minimal dentist visits and you get bad teeth.

The poors dont want to spend 120 seconds and 10 dollars a month on listerine and floss
Instead they spend that a day on cigarettes

quote:no - medicare or other programs do not provide dental care. Back in the mid 60's was stationed at a missile site on the Canadian/Montana border - young ladies (my age group - late teens early 20's) American and Canadian had UK looking teeth - I dated a couple of rancher daughters and believe me they were not poor.
Why do poor people in Louisiana have bad teeth? by ItzMe1972

Actually no
And it's really a shame
They will cover certain things but it's very limited and almost no Medicaid dentist.
There are very small programs and the waiting list is like a year
It's awful

Medicaid covers dental work for children and interestingly for pregnant women. Nobody else. That's why there are pediatric dental clinics who take Medicaid.
There are clinics with the LSU school of dentistry in NO and BR. Services are provided at highly reduced rates compared to the market. Ther are also free dental clinics a couple times a year sponsored by I think the statewide dental association. They usually are on a Saturday and Sunday.
There are some opportunities for people to obtain reasonably priced dental care but many either don't know about these options or don't care enough to take advantage of them.

That's not true anymore, with Medicaid expansion under Obamacare plenty of adults in Louisiana that receive Medicaid can now get dental care.

Drugs and the icees bought with Louisiana purchase card.

No, Medicare will only cover dentures for a person 65 or older if there are no teeth present at all. Medicaid does provide dental coverage, as long as a person can find a dentist who takes Medicaid.

Incorrect.
Medicaid gives children under a certain income free dental care.
There are plenty of programs for adults also. They just have to go through the process
