Because the storm couldve easily slipped into the Atlantic, because the storm couldve went over Cuba and deteriorated, because of life and all the shite you got to do to leave it behind.

Also, people dont really think they are going to die if trapped.

It seems you don't know shite about Florida but let me help you.

Reason #1 - there are only 2 roads out of Florida....95 & 75 (way north you can get on 10 so technically there's 3). Evacuations HAVE to be done in stages.......if you don't believe me wait until Tuesday when everybody tries to come back at the same time....95 & 75 will be parking lots.

Reason #2 - it wasn't until last night that everyone knew Irma was going right up the middle of the state. Almost everyone, including the weather experts, believed Irma would continue to move further east thus making the west side of FL an evacuation area.

How many people in LA died from Katrina bc they didn't leave? Worry about your own shite first.

By "traveling" do you mean getting out of harms way? It's not vacation.

He said nothing about vacation.

Did you really just disagree with a post that stated in order to evacuate you have to spend money traveling?

Why do posters named LadyTigress wait until they've already hit "submit" before they think about things?

I said in my OP that FL - FLORIDA - has been knowing all week. They are obviously the ones getting the brunt of it with the initial landfall, specifically Miami. It's not news to the southern tip of FL that a cat 5 would be coming this weekend. No need to be a dick about it. Sorry the post upset you so much. Agree with other posters, it's not feasible for literally everyone to evacuate early with work and such. Just seems like more would have been able to leave early. Millions on the road in the final hours is going to have catastrophic results.

Evacuating is expensive (hotels, meals, gas) and a pain in the arse (traffic, finding pet-friendly hotels). And lot of people don't want to take off work if they can avoid it because they're either paid hourly, rely on tipped wages, or self employed. Combination of unexpected expense of evacuating plus lost income is tough for a lot of people, so they wait until last minute hoping the track changes.

Literally just yesterday all but 1 of the computer models had the eye missing Florida, just east of South Florida.

It was not obvious as of yesterday.

It actually is, today is 100% different than yesterday.

That's exactly my point. Why see another state make the same poor decision to stay behind when something so catastrophic is about to take place? Learn from others mistakes here, like Katrina. That's all.

FL and LA ARE NOT ALIKE geographically. How you do it LA can't be done in FL.

Seriously watch the news Tuesday when people start coming back.

I'm being a dick because I'm pointing out the things you didn't consider before you posted, and that you're moving the goalposts when everyone points them out?

Well at least you get credit for backing off your original OP and admitting that what you initially stated isn't feasible and you were wrongt

I'm sorry that it upsets you when you make threads that are uninformed, and then you get called out. It's part of being part of the OT. Grow a pair.

Mentioned Miami in the OP, but whatever. You are a chronic arguer, thats fine. Guess everyone here forgot that thread here earlier this week where all the posters were telling the guy to get his niece out of Miami. There's a reason everyone here was saying that - general consensus: it was not a good idea to be sticking around down there with Irma on the way.

Exactly. Leaving NOLA for high ground is nothing like trying to leave Miami for high ground.

None of the Florida peninsula has enough elevation to disrupt a hurricane. That's why they had to drive all the way to Atlanta and they'll still get hit there.

I don't necessarily disagree but everyone had to know it was a possibility, even if the possibility was .1%. The OP was shitting on people evacuating FL "late" without know shite about FL.

Nobody forgot it. Now you're talking about Miami, so again, moving the goalpost. Why don't you spell out clearly which counties you think should have evacuated. At least then, we can have a reasonable discussion. Your OP was directed towards the entire state of FL (before edit).

And I'm not arguing for the sake of argument. I have very close friend in Tampa I've spoken with every day. You have no idea the struggle he was having on whether or not to evacuate. He has a family. All he wants to do is protect them. The storm shifted much further west overnight, just 2 nights ago. When that happened, the streets were already gridlocked with S. FL evacuees. What was he supposed to do? Should he now take his family and get in the traffic? Should he have left a week ago, when Tampa appeared safe? Tell me and him, what should he have done, and when should he have left?
