Why do people start extremely depressing threads on the OT?

I swear...some people are addicted to depression.

I notice this in every day life - some people just seem to LOVE depressing things (depressing stories, TV shows, movies, news, etc.)

I've never understood it. Why would anyone want to read about children dying?

Yes...this is a response thread because it's time for one.

Merry Trumpmas!

Because shite happens in the world.

OT does not need to be a safe space. We have uplifting threads and depressing threads.

The depressing ones can make you appreciate what you have. The uplifting ones can inspire you to hope for better. News is news and the world is the world, stories need to be told.

I've asked before on the SEC Rant off-topic board which is also prone to depressing navel-gazing. Apparently, ol' baws and gals consider it deep and introspective to talk about their biggest disappointments and failed dreams.

There are major chord people, there are minor chord people. Can't have great music without both.

I don't understand why posters feel the need to create threads about child rape, torture, etc.

There's no need to be so morbid.

Exactly. There's nothing deep or interesting about these type of threads.

It just proves that some people are fascinated with sick morbid topics which by default makes them sick and morbid.

Its true man, some people are only happy when they are not happy. It seems miserable to be that way, but it seems like a lot of people are like that. I guess its just the way some people are programed.

Yep. That stuff isn't news or informative. The only thing that can be learned from it is that sometimes bad shite happens and no one has any control over it. All it does is create fear, sadness, and misery.

That one I don't get. I've seen as many as three child death stories on the first page at one point. Not just local stories or ones that get national media attention (e.g., Disney gator); a child dies anywhere in the U.S. for any reason, it gets posted here.
