Say hi for me to Travis McGee. cause according to John McDonald, he's still in Cedar Key.
In high school, I was blessed with discovering a box with probably every one of them. Read them all over the next two years. Good stuff.

A lot of the writing just sticks with you. Like how you can look a photograph and get a feeling that person has since died from the eyes. Or it’s better not to look at gruesome stuff to avoid the memories forever.

If you go back to Hawaii, go to Oahu and stay at Turtle Bay. Absolutely amazing property with lots to do. Beaches are beautiful.

so we stayed at Grand Wailea in Maui last time and then spent a day at the royal hawaiian at waikiki beach with some friends. Overall Oahu was my least favorite of the islands. I hated the big city asian slum feel of honolulu.

i absolutely loved maui and would go back but i certainly didnt find any of theior beaches to be same quality as the florida beaches from a lounging around stand point. Now the scenery is better, the amenities are better, weather is better, surrounded by very classy people for most part, had awesome restaurants etc but its huge pain in the arse to get to. And its great for all the things other than the beach. Dont get me wrong, i loved the black sand beaches, the cliffs, the red sand, the caves, the waterfalls etc...but the actual beach...yea not it. Now it was nice to lay out on cause it wasnt blistering hot.

We stayed at Grand Wailea last year.

Turtle bay is nowhere near the city or the slums. It’s a pretty amazing scenic drive for about an hour down the coast. It’s a Ritz Carlton Property with two golf courses, horseback riding, tons of trails, surfing, etc.

sweet, thanks for the link. looks beautiful.

yea we were at the grand last april. Was a great time. loved the property and the restaurants

my favorite beaches outside the country so far have been Jamaica. I really like the south coast. First time we went to the northern coast about 15 years ago, it was awesome too. But Montego is so damn big now and last time we went it was more run down. Felt like the south coast got better, opposite in the north. Still one of my favorite places to visit but now that my kids are older and in all kinds of crap, dont get to go as much.

Because I don’t think Pensacola is the best beach in the world?

Get out and live a little. You got the money to do so, you tell us about it all the time. Though it may be a little boring since you have no friends to experience it with

My family still loves it and seems to be an obligatory event to at least once a year to rent an expensive condo, slather gallons of sunblock, haul a wagon load of tents, chairs, coolers, and drinks to sit in the sand for 8 miserable hours, adjusting the sun umbrella every 30 minutes, watching the waves like old re-runs on MeTV, until the sun finally sets. Repeat for the next 5 days. No! I'm sick of it.
A lot of people wish they could afford to do this. So many ungrateful, spoiled people on here.

Maybe 20 years ago. It's fricking PACKED these days.

It’s not bad if you go in the shoulder season. It’s hot AF in August, but there are fewer people. We usually go mid-August.

You purposefully have a worse vacation to avoid a shite ton of people… that would make it a worse vacation. Just go somewhere else that’s actually enjoyable

We go on multiple trips every year, going to 30A is not my "vacation", it's just an extended weekend trip.

What’s your alternative? When it comes to beaches it’s Florida or Hawaii

CA, SC, NC, AL, MS, TX, just a few that come to mind. Plenty of beaches in the US

Water: Being in the Gulf it’s warm so that’s a big plus. But the water in Hawaii is like going swimming in a huge aquarium the moment you get in. You can see many tens of feet down to the bottom and make out fish very far away. It’s that clear. So I would say Hawaii has better water and not even mentioning the surfing action. It beats the Gulf water being warmer.

The water quality is slightly better in Hawaii, but it's splitting hairs.

Obviously I prefer Lanikai beach to Rosemary, but that's mostly due to the scenery around the beach. The water quality is very close and the sand on 30A is actually better.

The water in the Keys is also slightly better than 30A as well, but their beaches aren't great.

You keep saying this, and all you do is brag about what you do and where you go. We do travel all over. I have plenty of good close friends. That doesn’t change the fact you’re a fricking douche bag loser.

See you in Des Moines midget

Outer banks are great, but not really comparable for sand and water.

Texas and MS beaches?

Honolulu and Waikiki suck, the Kailua area is nice.

Some of us have worked hard and sacrificed to get where we are. I have no sympathy for poor people in the USA.

Oh please, you’re in here shitting on everything that isn’t Croatia or fricking Australia. You and I both know that’s out of range for most American families these days.

Rosemary and Alys are some of the nicer beaches in the continental US. They may not compare around the world, but not many people can swing the kind of trips you’re speaking of.
