It's simple really. We have to kill the animals in order to save them.

I think people who hunt critically endangered species should die in a hail of bullets.

Hunters are conservationists when there is an over abundance of the hunted animal population. Herds need to be thinned to maintain genetic integrity. Other than that hunters don't do any more for conservation than the average NYC liberal piece of shite, unless they are involved in conservation education.

Of the species named in this thread, which are "critically endangered"?

NYC liberals put over $1 billion into state wildlife agencies last year? Because that's what hunters and fishermen did through purchases that had excises taxes applied for the benefit of conservation.

How many NYC liberals took time to volunteer on wildlife conservation projects, like installing water supplies for desert bighorn sheep out west?

I'll be the first to argue that buying a hunting licenses doesn't make you a conservationist, but that nonsense you just wrote is complete and utter bullshite.

It's apparent many people don't understand how conservation works, and don't take the time to actually research the topic they're outraged about.

No animals today are endangered because of hunting. They're endangered because of illegal poaching and loss of habitat.

Hunters are seriously the last people you should be concerned with when it comes to endangered species.

Sure, just ignore the rest. I called your pathetic post out, and you just ignore it all. You don't have a leg to stand on with that crappy argument.

I did already. Go back and read what you skimmed over. And do some research instead of mouthing off about things you clearly don't know anything about.

problem is.. the ones poaching the elephants are the ones who are "conserving" them

you're 100% wrong

these kills are highly regulated and necessary to cull the heard. either the preserve will do it or hunters can for a fee

These are guided hunts that are used to eliminate animals that are determined to need to be culled from the herd anyway. So why not get some rich guy to pay a fvck-ton of money to do it.

Win-win.

I don't get hunting duck and deer either, especially in a prosperous country like America. Are you starving? Can't just you just get a EBT card and buy some meat at a supermarket?

Do you really expect much from people who elected a guy who tried to sell steaks via the mail as President?

Give me some material. Are you talking organizations or some mogul that has tons of money that's fighting poachers abroad.

I know dozens of hunters and I can tell you for a fact that most of them couldn't care less about actual conservation. They may want to preserve a population of animals for no other reason than to keep them in the sport.

I understand why they hunt. I really do. The brotherhood, the camaraderie, an excuse to get away from the missus, the stories over campfires and the good food and beer. Some guys like the peace and serenity. It's awesome. I get it. These guys are not conservationists, however.

So they are into conservation just not the way you think of conservation.

Congrats. So your opinion of hunters as a group is based on a couple dozen guys.

Just go listen to guys like Remi Warren, Ryan Callihan, Steve Rinella, Ben O'brien, Brian Call, and ESPECIALLY Randy Newberg, and you will hear plenty of stories of guys doing good for wildlife. Randy Newberg talks all the time of guys coming from all over to work with wildlife agencies out west to put in watering tanks for bighorn sheep. They do it even though they may never get to hunt them. Backcountry Hunters and Anglers--a hunter group--routinely puts on public land cleanups. The southeast chapter has done several in the last few months. Several western states have volunteer programs where people go out and work with the agencies at checkpoints, assisting in data gathering on harvested animals. The NWTF, and other hunter conservationist groups, put on hunts to teach women and children how to hunt, and also hold hunts for physically disabled people.

I completely understand how conservation "works".

My quote was a spoof on a famous Vietnam era quote about destroying a village in order to save it.

My opinion on both ideas is more or less the same.
