Why do people keep listing asthma a preexisting condition that increase symptoms?

As a younger, relatively in shape guy that has asthma I keep seeing it listed as one of the preexisting conditions people call out by name as a cause for deaths/severe sickness. Is it because this is one of the few lung diseases people commonly know? Everything I have seen says asthma does not make one more susceptible to severe illness from the virus. All reports from China, SK, and elsewhere seem to be in agreement on this. Am I missing something?

Because little poindexters with glasses and asthma don’t want normal people to be able to go to the gym

Common sense says that a condition that causes your airways to constrict combined with a condition that causes trouble breathing is an issue.

This disease effects the respiratory system. Asthma weakens the respiratory, thus it increases the symptoms of COVID19.

I would agree that is why I looked into but found that it doesn't increase your risk.

Given the fact this thing fricking up lungs is what ultimately kills people, I'd imagine any obstructive pulmonary disease, like asthma, probably doesn't help matters.

With that being said, asthma is reversible and as long as you're well controlled I wouldn't think it would be an issue. I wouldn't rank it near the other preexisting conditions like CV disease, DM, or COPD.

^Just me thinking out loud. I don't really know for sure, and I'm sure the OT docs can answer this better than I can.

As with anything there are varying degrees of how severely someone has asthma. Those with mild cases probably not a concern. Those with sever asthma issues are more likely the concern.

I’m saying this as someone that has asthma, but it doesn’t limit me. I’ve seen others that have severe complications with it and are regularly seeing a doctor or going to hospital for breathing treatments.

“The data that we have so far from China and South Korea does not identify people with asthma as being at risk of getting the virus or having more severe illness with the virus,” Sebastian Johnston, a professor of respiratory medicine & allergy at the U.K. National Heart and Lung Institute tells TIME.

because China and South Korea have been so honest with their reporting and data

Yeah I don't even take anything for mine and it doesn't seem to effect me in the slightest.

Wut

I have asthma and every time I get sick it flares up. I would imagine a virus that actually is hard on the lungs could be really bad if I got it
