Thinking it's your job to be the positivity police for the world is incredibly self-centered jerkoff behavior.

Let me add an additional thought. Taking care of yourself is so vitally important. I see people my age that can barely get out of a chair or climb a flight of steps. I have my issues but nothing that prevents me from doing whatever I want within reason. I’m not running a marathon or climbing Mt Everest but I’m pretty good. I routinely ride my mountain bike and hand out at the beach as often as I can. I do hiking and occasionally go up to the mountains to do segments on the Appalachian trail. You just have to get your arse out there and live.

I’ve always been an avid college football fan but as that has been destroyed by greed, I’m gravitating more to attending concerts. I went to Metallica in Tampa just a while ago and it was freaking awesome.

Stay away from booze, smoking, drugs and shitty food. They will shorten your life by a lot.

What goes through the older folks minds on this site that not only embrace the negativity, but feel like they need to add to it? Is everyone just that fed up with life and they've given up on trying to spread positivity?

Shite happens to a person as they get older. Notice a dog at seven and then again at eleven. Just slow that progression down in humans. It is a progression nonetheless. So after 60 you are one day older and one day closer to death.
I agree, enjoy life and experiences.

Thats an impossible thing. Im not recommending that, rather the idea of not adding to the negativity that is already happening. You cant control others, only yourself. You using others being negative as an excuse to do the same will just encourage the next guy to do the same.

A few years ago I was at a family and friends camping week at Hot Springs, NC. There was a retired Doctor there that was a really cool guy. He had recently lost his wife from cancer. He decided to retire and live life. He said he will not say no to anything that comes at him. He is going to just take it as it comes and live his best and adventuresome life. I really liked that philosophy.

I'm saying that type of behavior wasn't allowed 40 years ago. Not addressing problems will cause them to snowball. This sort of thing should be noticed and condemned.

40 years ago you wouldnt have even known if this happened much less addressed it. There have always been assholes, just less cameras and social media

And what exactly have you done to address it?

Are you applying to be a cop? Judge? Politician? Or are you just bitching about something and hoping someone else does something about it?

Touche

This post has pretty much solidified my stance though. Rather than the complainers trying to give me a reason why they behave that way, they have tried to tell me that i should also look at the world as half empty.

For every social media video of someone doing something shitty they post, theres someone doing a kind gesture that goes unnoticed besides those directly affected.

A man's 30s-40s are the absolute peak, prime of life. By that time, you have a family, have progressed in your career and are making good money, you're still young and healthy. I ran marathons at 45, now that I'm nearing 60, I lift more than cardio (I still do 2 miles/day with a 28lb weighted vest). If you have aches and pains in your 40s, you're a fat disgusting slob and need to get off your arse. Go get your T checked.

That's not a selfish philosophy at all. "Turn your head and don't look at the crime and it's victims over there. Look in the other direction and enjoy this popsicle. Isn't that better?"

It is and isn't a trap. Somethings got better(like technology and cars).

It is not our fault though

Music used to be much better when I was younger
Married couple actally stayed married for more then 10 years
Movies were not out of good ideas which they are now obviously
etc ..

Oh crap....

You do realize this has happened the entire history of the world right?

Its not some new concept I just came up with. Its been the normal thing forever. Its only recently that your "like, share, repost" behavior started.

I have to wonder about that myself.

My 87 year old mom complains a lot, always miserable.

Her mother who died horribly at 92 would only complain when necessary, like a broken hip or uti. (She grew up at a time without any nutritional info available and like a lot of old women didn't drink enough milk as a child. Her cause of death was organ failure as a result of total skeletal collapse just laying still in a hospital bed.)

I take after my grandmother and only complain to medical staff or if I am incapable of getting out of the floor. My mother had no idea How much pain I was in 24/7 for about 5 years until I finally got with a pain care specialist and worked my way up from little pills to a fentanyl patch the size of the palm of my hand (what you get in an ambulance would fit on the pad of the tip of your little finger)

I think people like my mom that complain all the time are focused on what they have lost, can't do anymore, and people like grandma and I instead focus on what we still have and the memories of the of the good times instead.

I mean sure my health is total crap and my life expectancy is about another decade but there are people everywhere in worse shape than me. At least I can still walk and talk, my mind is still intact, I can use the bathroom without aid of any kind. That's better than millions of people worldwide including many locals.
