Why do people always say, “formerly known as Twitter” every time they reference “X”

I’m not a big social media person. I know the name changed.
Did they not want to be known as Twitter anymore?
I feel like it’s been at least a year since the change. Why are people still saying, “blah blah said blah blah on X, formerly known as Twitter” ?

It's the proper way to reference the platform in formal written pieces given the recent name change.
I still call it Twitter, though.

I just still call it Twitter because for some reason calling it "X" just seems weird to me.

Because it's a stupid name and everybody still thinks of it as Twitter.

Why? If they wanted to get away from the name “Twitter” why is it proper to still use it when talking about it?

Just call it TPFKAT. (The Platform Formerly Known As Twitter)

A lot of people still call it Twitter to try to get under Musk’s skin
Posted on 10/1/24 at 12:03 pm to TackySweater
Because renaming it X was stupid.

Shiiiit …. liberal media still say “ Myanmar, formerly known as Burma“. Only been 35 years since they changed names.

x as a letter is already in regular usage throughout our language, and no one should expect to co-opt the letter and demand the world to immediately forget all former usages.
also, # = pound or number

When you write something on X is it still a tweet or did we change the name?
Posted on 10/1/24 at 12:12 pm to TackySweater
Because X is also used as sort of a wildcard like Citizen "X" or brand "X" or Team "X".
