Love the beach. Always have. Always will.
To each its own.
To each its own.

I've always lived really close to the beach and I hate it.

Did you pay the piper for use of the SxS?
They should have multiple options for that instead of a 150 a year blanket permit. Maybe add a 3 day pass for 25 or weekly pass for 40. That way, you don’t force the once a year visitors into a long term pass they may use once.

Love the gulf view, the nice breeze, the talent, but the beach has lost its allure for me and my wife. Just to old now.

Nothing says fun like paying for an overpriced condo, having to sweat your balls off hauling a wagon full of junk down to the beach,
Nope, never done that. No reason to blow a bunch of money on a condo. Adults carry their own chairs, wild idea I know, especially since they come with backpack straps. Wife has a small bag and an umbrella, I bring a little ice chest. We’re not staging a beach invasion, just bringing drinks, sunscreen, and a couple towels like normal humans.

only to sit there for about 2-3 hours before everyone has enough sand time and goes sit by the pool.
The point is to be at the beach. Why set everything up just to leave for a pool you can find anywhere? Now you’re stuck with rules, people going inside to stare at their phones, and all the distractions you were trying to escape.
quote:Obviously this kind of trip isn’t your thing, but you’ve truly outdone yourself, turning what should’ve been a cheap, easy, low-key getaway into a pricey, chaotic, stress-ridden ordeal. Bravo!
Then you have to break all the shite down, and clean the sand off after.

I lived 3 blocks from the beach in SoCal for 2 years. I went to the actual beach twice.

Being the beach Sherpa is part of being a dad. We’ve done the family beach vacation since my kids were little and had some great memories.
Do it now because one day they’ll be teenagers and their interests will change. Sure it’s a pain in the arse but jumping round in the waves, building sand castles and watching them run around all excited is awesome. When they’re young take advantage of being super dad that they want to play with (constantly).
We just got back yesterday and I still had some quality boogie boarding with my 14 yr old and we had a family game of monopoly that lasted 2 days. The rest of the time the to boys were walking around or on the golf cart trying to meet girls.
ETA: the bigger problem is the adults thinking it’s spring break and staying up way too late and drinking too much after the kids go to bed. It’s a lot more enjoyable if your not hung over.

A day at the beach with friends dragging a 300 foot seine when the speckled trout are chasing shrimp is a night spent fileting the 100's you caught. At least this was the case decades ago. The only problem was sharks ripping a hole in the pocket of the seine

A nice, quiet beach is great. The problem is that it has become absurdly expensive to vacation in areas with nice, quiet beaches.
The last time I was at the beach in the Destin area, anytime I would go out to the actual beach I'd be met with 3-5 competing bro country DJs with Bluetooth speakers. It's become the contemporary version of the 3rd level of Dante's Hell.
Like someone said, the beach is great as a little kid or a 20 year old looking to drink and get in trouble, but a good beach experience as an adult is expensive as hell and there are better options at that price point to me.

But it’s all about how much your kids enjoy it.
Kids enjoy just about everything. Its just the excuse the women use to get everyone to go to that miserable hell hole.

Any type of week vacation with kids to do anything remotely interesting is absurdly expensive unless you’re piling in a hotel room…which is miserable and then food costs et you alive. With 4 of us we’ve gone the condo VRBO route for years so we can at least eat in most of the time
Renting cabins, lake houses, beach condos or airfare for 4 is expensive. I guess it would be cheaper to go in with a bunch of people on a bigger house to cut costs but that seems more like a circu than a vacation.

Exactly.
The beach sucks, it sucks more with young kids, and it especially sucks when the kids are still on a strict nap schedule.
We just got back from Cinnamon Shore and wont go back for several years until kids are older and capable of survival.
I just booked 4 nights at Horseshoe Bay to replace it. Kids will have just as much fun, if not more fun, and it will be so much easier.

Lake houses are underrated
Based on what they sell for on a good lake, I do not think they are underrated.
I love the beach
I love lake houses
I love hiking in the mountains
It all has its place
Sitting on the island of Anguilla right now after 8 glorious nights on perfect nearly empty beaches with crystal clear water. A Mahi sandwich and a couple rum punches for lunch everyday.
Heaven
Headed home today though. Boo

Sound poor.
I wake up, walk to my chair setup that is set everyday by paid workers. Bring my beverage and music situation , and chill all day lookin at hot bikini arse. Paid sitter handles kids setup and back n forth bullshite.

I’m jelly. Wife and I have been taking Caribbean trips for 20 years. Loved every one of them. About to book for August.
Enjoy.

The beach sucks
I know most of you go to the gulf so I can’t speak to that but the SC beaches an be big fun if you get lucky with the timing. The tides move in and out 50 yds and the waves can be crazy. Some of the best moments I’ve had s a dad have been floating out on a boogie board in gorgeous weather with the boys talking about life waiting to catch a smooth swell of 4 ft+ breakers.
Catch that shite right and you can ride them up into the cabana.
