Food is a class issue.
People don’t want to look lower class by eating fast food.
Although not all fast food is the same. It’s okay to eat at Canes or Chick-fil-A, but not too often. Going to McDonalds, that makes you look lower class.
Class pretension was half the reason that Whole Foods was so popular. It was a way to show off that you were part of the upper middle class.

It's because you're 5'7. Taller MD's get the big bucks. And the hottest nurses.

I’ve only had it one or two times but I didn’t hate it. I just don’t go because I don’t like cold sandwiches nearly as much as I like hot sandwiches.

You're likely right. I think it's silly, but human beings are usually pretty concerned with status signalling.

I don’t eat fast food, except about twice a year I get a spicy chicken sandwich from Wendys.

I said hottest nurses. You can still bag your share of the leftovers. Or Phlebotomists.

Whole Foods is great when there’s one in your neighborhood & you’re stoned and don’t know what you want to eat
I think it’s crazy people do real grocery shopping there tho

I used to see these all the time on Tinder, but never Bumble or Hinge. Makes you wonder.

I enjoy both a good bit. Wish we had one in town. If you're in JJ's delivery area, it's the best bang for your buck around. It's only 10 or 11 bucks, even with a 3 dollar tip.
We have both and although Jimmy Johns isn't my favorite I like it better than Subway. The Italian Night Club is a solid sandwich although it is like 950 calories.

It’s both silly and important.
Class is a tribe within a tribe, and it’s a way for us to show the flag to other members of our class.
I don’t wash my car, because that’s just not something you do, for example.
America is weird because our class structure isn’t obvious. Outsiders have a very hard time figuring out.
Have you read Paul Fussells book Class?
It’s very funny, but it also does an excellent job of describing our class structure, and the rules we all operate under.

I don't think there's a thing I can find at Whole Foods that I can't find for significantly cheaper elsewhere. And if I want a 'boutique grocery store' experience I'd rather spend money at a local place.

I have not, but it's on my list now.

Y'all have boutique local stores? Our local stores are anything but.

How does that thing not gross people out?
It is shaped like ribs with bones because someone took “meat” and forced it into a mold.
Just the visualization of that is disgusting.

ever see them squeeze out one of those cryo-packed 'filets' using meat-glue?

We have a few higher end locally owned stores here too.
