I would think anonymity would lend to honesty but you're right. Best time to lie as well.

There is at least one thread a week about Chicken Fil A, Popeye’s, or Canes.
And if you want the OTs real opinions about fast food just make a post critical of those restaurants.

*excluding posts about shitty service at Popeyes, of course

CFA's biscuits are trash, IMO. I like everything else.

I disowned CFA when they get rid of the spicy chicken biscuit (some will still make it if you ask) and they changed the breakfast burrito

We have a few higher end locally owned stores here too.

We do, but you can’t compare to the weird stuff you can get at WF when you need it. You can’t bank on walking into them for a unique specialty ingredient like you can WF.

I prefer the local store down the street for my regular stuff, but I definitely frequent WF too.

Moving from the rural Midwest to the south was... eye opening in regards to class

I don’t know where you are, but I can imagine that.

The South, especially the old south, Virginia and the Carolinas, had a feudal class structure.

It was only in the last fifteen years that the old families in Virginia lost political control over the state.

I imagine that will horrify some people. They’ll find the idea backwards and offensive.

I grew up with it, granted, but it worked, and I will always love that world.

Everyone had a place in society, and the people on top had a sense of obligation. They looked out for everyone. Especially the poorest.

Everyone also interacted with everyone. Powerful people weren’t hidden away behind walls and armed guards. And the poorest weren’t some class of untouchables.

I guess WF is like Starbucks where people pretend that regular coffee costs $7?
starbucks is $2 for a regular cup of coffee and not that much different than anywhere else.

you can feel just as smug shopping ECOFRIENDLY at traders and you know going in they have the same 27 items as every other traders and you can get $5 wine.

I bought a cup of coffee from Whole Foods a couple months ago.

It was shade grown, ecologically source, fair trade, panda friendly ...

It went on and on. There were at least seven or eight virtues attached to it.

* I am making up the Panda Friendly part, but I do think it’s a brilliant idea. The OT could make a killing selling Panda Friendly coffee.

It was definitely more paternalistic rather than separative, especially in smaller towns. I don't think we'll ever go back to that without drastic upheaval.

right

but if you any thread about Starbucks will have people saying "I'm not paying $7 for a cup of joe" or something, which is the equivalent of what you are doing with WF

does WF have some ridiculous priced items? absolutely

but once you get used to shopping there, you figure out how to shop there pretty quickly

their 365 brand items are often cheaper than name brand stuff you can get at normal grocery stores

Yes

I think it was the product of our agrarian economy. All of our lives were tied to the land.

My cotton fields are being replaced with factories and suburbs. It makes me sad, but I guess it's better than becoming a complete economic backwater.
