So you're trying to replace a lack of quality time with your kids with money. You're a terrible parent is what it sounds like to me. My suggestion is to take all the gifts back, and just take them for a walk in the morning. They'll forget all about the gifts and will be thankful for the time with you.

Gotta admit, I get that feeling too. I'm probably vicariously living through my kid and remembering all the Christmases that I didn't get much because we had the poors.

Christmas is about spending time with family. The older I get the less I want. My wife and I have a rule now, we don't get each other gifts and instead I pick out an angel on the angel tree at the mall and she does the same and then we go out and buy our angels 200 dollar worth the stuff the want and need. That is more satisfying since we buy whatever we want during the year

Yeah, I get that. My kid is almost 16. Just money works as a gift now. Still, I just feel taking the time to find a present is more personal. I got a bunch of gift cards so we'll do some shopping together next week, but still got her a few gifts to unwrap, too.
