Women care about feelings and connection and security...or at least feeling better about themselves than a mate because of low self-esteem.

Here's how it works:
During youth women have the upper hand, picking then dumping whomsoever they please.
But as we age, men gradually attain the upper hand, based on financial security, stability, experience, and the ace in the hole: daddy issues.

Anyway, for you youngsters who can't understand why young women go for fat, ugly or older men, just remember:
Your turn will come.

Because for some women, looks aren't everything. They may like guys who are smart, funny, mature, honest, etc. This really isn't all that hard to figure out honestly. Same goes for the other way around too.

Some of those women have likely dated hot guys before and had a bad experience (being cheated on, etc.). A guy that has outkicked his coverage will be more appreciative towards the woman. She won't have to worry about other women flirting with him when they go places. He will be less likely to cheat or break her heart.
Now for more vain, shallow women....it's either they want to be the hotter one in the relationship...or they are dating the ugly guy because he has $$$.

Its funny watching all the sororistitues date dudes that are pot heads and drunks in college just because they are the life of the party in undergrad.

A lot of truth here. I'm not an ugly guy by any means but I was an a-hole and lucky I had such a great family to save my arse with many women I honestly didn't deserve

Basically, girls in general have more self esteem issues than guys. Not all, but many...even hot ones. Many will latch on to an available guy and sometimes they get comfortable. Those self esteem issues than work against their desire for change. What happens after that depends on their social and relationship environment
