I think it's just their dialect. Kind of like when girls drag out the last syllable of words when talking to each other. Just the way that they relate to one another.

Up-speak is part of coming out for some people.

Not all gay men speak with a lisp. That is as stereotypical as asking why all people from the south are racist.

Why is it called a lisp? It's nothing like a lisp.

My optometrist just hired another optician, that has the gayest lisp I have ever heard.

I asked the other optician what was up with the dudes lisp. He mentioned to me that he was gay, like I didn't notice that, and that he was curious about that strong lisp and asked the gay dude about it.

His answer, "it's our mating call!" (you really need to read this in a gay lisp for it to make sense).

So all the gay men can know whether a man is gay or not.

Seriously, it is a feminine quality and if they are on the more feminine side then that's just one way for them to act feminine. It's not something they do on purpose.

When I went to school, there was a kid everyone knew was a "sissy" because.. even though it sounded like it was something he tried to hide, when he wasn't thinking about it.. the lisp would come out.. Now, he is openly gay and I have to assume he is the female in the relationship.
