Why do folks aged 65+ feel the need to be driving around during rush hour?

Nothing pisses me off more than trying to get work or get home from work and seeing a granny or grampa driving 10 below the speed limit holding up traffic.

Back in the mid-90s I was driving on the odd controlled access highway that is Memorial Parkway in Huntsvegas. At that age I was driving like a bat outta hell, and I see this bright yellow 300ZX (2nd gen) come flying up behind me, pass me, and proceed to weave in and out of traffic. I get off at Drake and pull up to the light to turn left, and next to me is the yellow 300ZX. I expect it to be the typical mid-life crisis dude. Nope. Little old lady who could barely see over the steering wheel.
I think I laughed my arse off for a good ten minutes.

They value autonomy.
I'm actually the opposite in that I get annoyed until I see it's an old person driving. Then I just accept it as a part of life. I'll be there one day.

You must be in Lafayette. Every day around quitting time the oldsters take to the streets to get to the grocery store, Target, or wherever. And yes, they’re gonna drive at or below the speed limit with 0 sense of urgency.
