but don't do anything special to keep the older customers??? my 2 year contract just ran out on eatel tv and it went up so i called and got $15 knocked off of the tv bill and $10 knocked off of internet bill...still not even close to the new customer rate.. she said thats all she could do ..i said ok how long to i have to not be a customer to get the new customer rate...she said 6 months..its stupid..i told her i was gonna cancel tv and get directv or dish for 2 years and then maybe come back...she said she was sorry...lol
tl;dr version..contract ran out..poor problems, cost too much..nothing for existing customers, not their problem..

Check out the cord cutting thread on the nerd, I mean Tech board.
I'm getting close to pulling the trigger myself. Just skeptical about college football.

Yeah, we just had to call and complain to keep our internet bill from going up $20 a month because our "new customer" rate was expiring. We ended up getting another "promotion" with faster internet (if that is even true) for $2 more a month.

Totally agree. The cell phone companies are the worst with this shite.

This is the main reason why I dropped cable/satelitte TV.
I had been a customer of DirectTV for going on 8 years, but I could not get any promotions to lower my bill, but new customers get all kinds of promotions? That is utter horseshite and puts no value on loyal customers.
frick them all. I'll never go back to cable/satellite TV.

when i was transferring my service to my new house, we got a "new customer" rate, which even adding the security system, it came out $30 cheaper than we were paying at the old house....
the guy i was dealing with then proceeded to tell me (and the only reason he was able to was because i called him and they don't record those calls, evidently) that after my "new customer" rate expires in a year, call the specifically-set-up-for-this-exact-purpose retention department and tell them the rate is too much and that if they want to keep me as a customer, then they need to do something about the new charge...
i always knew you could do that, but i'm not the type to call and be a dick for personal gain like that, but knowing that's pretty much what everyone does, and it's really not an out of the ordinary thing, i'm planning on doing that in the future...
